Leps Move to 2-0
Two games, two dominating wins for the La Grange boys basketball team.
But the Leps were not celebrating too much in the aftermath of Tuesday’s 63-31 victory over Hallettsville.
“We had some good things, but when you end something as poorly as we did it’s hard to look at those bright spots and say hey, we grew tonight. I kinda don’t feel like we did,” said La Grange head coach Trent Collier. “Big win, we took care of the job, but not to the standard we expect.”
Expectations are sky high for the defending district champ Leps team this season, and early in the game Tuesday they played like it, jumping out to a 36-8 halftime lead.
But after halftime the teams played pretty evenly.
“I thought it was a dominating first half but I was not very pleased with our second half effort,” Collier said. “Once again we did not block out well. We had way too many turnovers, we got way too sloppy in the second half.
“There were some good things. Caleb Norwood played much better tonight. I thought Dillan Johnson was more aggressive taking the ball to the hole. I thought Cole’s (Collier) shot was falling. Christian Biles showed some touch around the rim. Chris Supak did a great job running the court, catching passes and putting the ball in the hole.”
Junior Conner Brooks led the way for the Leps with 31 points. Cole Collier had eight. Supak and Norwood scored five. Biles scored four, Scott Davis three, and Kleiber and Hunter Gross each scored two.
The Leps put their perfect record on the line when they host the Schmeckenfest Tournament this weekend. Eight varsity boys are participating. The Leps play Thursday at 1 p.m. on the Hermes Campus against Northern Beaches Australia. Then Friday they play at the high school gym at 11:45 a.m. against Schulenburg and at 4:45 p.m. against Bastrop. Saturday’s games will be determined by Thursday and Friday’s games.
