The Leps basketball team needed a late rally to beat Giddings in the final few seconds Friday.

Tuesday no late heroics were needed as the La Grange boys put away Caldwell early and rolled to a 64-35 victory.

The win improves the Leps’ record to 17-8 and 2-0 in district and was head coach Trent Collier’s 200th career win as a head coach (more on that below).

“Caldwell put up a good fight, but our guys played well,” Collier said. “We hit shots, played great defense.

“It’s a good warmup for Navasota (this Friday). If we’re going to four-peat (as district champs), we have to go to Navasota and get it done.”

Tuesday the Leps looked strong, building a 20 point lead at halftime and never looking back.

Conner Brooks (last Friday’s hero) again came up big for the Leps, scoring 24. Cole Collier scored 12, Brandon Mathis 10, Hunter Gross nine, Mason Kleiber four, Caleb Norwood three, and Dillan Johnson two.

“Our defense that’s where it all starts with us,” said Cole Collier. “We have to play really great on defense – and the offense will come for us.”
