The La Grange girls basketball team continues to overwhelm district foes – but a huge test looms Friday.

On Tuesday the Lady Leps crushed Caldwell 49-9 to improve to 22-8 overall and 4-0 in district this season.

Friday the La Grange girls head to Navasota, where they will play a Lady Rattlers team tied with the Lady Leps atop the District 22-4A standings.

“Tonight’s game was a great precursor to Friday’s game,” said La Grange head coach Ryan O’Neal. “Caldwell does a lot of similar things to Navasota, but Navasota does them better. Navasota has three good guards. They have a tradition of winning, They are well coached. We’ll see where we are at. It’s going to be fun..

The La Grange girls head into Friday’s big game with plenty of momentum after dismantling Caldwell.

Campbell Cooper led the Lady Leps attack Tuesday with 16 points. Kylie Trlicek added 11, Avery Griffin six, Mylah Blaschke five, Ashtyn Smith four, Macie Collier three, Ella Nygren three and Hannah Gross one.

“These girls are playing at a high level defensively and translating that into offense. We’re sharing the ball really well and it’s a lot of fun to play that way,” said O’Neal.

“Our team is doing really well,” said La Grange sophomore Ashtyn Smith. “We’re working together in practice really hard, and we get along really well.”

After Tuesday’s girls game, Lil’ Leps Night was celebrated as the varsity boys and girls welcome youth basketball players onto the court to be honored.

“That was amazing,” O’Neal said. “We have some really good parents and young kids that want to be playing at this level. The future is really bright for Lady Leps basketball. It will be a really fun next couple of years.”
