Lady Leps Open District With a Sweep of Navasota
The La Grange volleyball team opened district play with a commanding 25-16, 25-17, 25-10 victory at home over Navasota Tuesday.
“We talked about focusing on finishing and you saw that tonight,” said La Grange head coach Ryan O’Neal. “We
See were up 12-8 in that last set and ended up winning 25-10. We focused on fundamentals, passing and putting the ball away.”
La Grange was getting contributions from up and down their roster, and were in control the entire night.
Carley Ulrich led the team in kills with 10, Brion Williams had nine and Avery Griffin had six.
Kylie Trlicek had 19 assists and Gabby Hollek had 12.
Ulrich led in digs with 10 and Trlicek had six. Trlicek had five aces. Ashtyn Smith and Williams each had three.
“Overall we were communicating well,” said La Grange junior Haedyn Cooper, who had several long serving runs. “We really executed on all the free balls they gave us.”
Tuesday’s victory improves the Lady Leps overall record to 20-12, but more importantly is that 1-0 mark in district.
“All the games played were all preparation for this,” O’Neal said of district play. “I think I was more nervous than the girls were. I’m glad we got this first one under our belt.”
The Lady Leps now turn their attention to Giddings, which they host Friday at 5 p.m. “In volleyball every point brings a fresh perspective but things can change like that,” O’Neal said. “We’re remaining focused on the next set, the next play, the next match.”
