Both La Grange varsity soccer teams stayed undefeated with victories over Cameron Friday.

Here’s a recap:

The Leopards took on the Cameron Yoe for the second time this year. After defeating Cameron a week ago at the Rockdale tournament the Leps were once again to much for the Yoemen to handle. The Leopards took an early lead as Aaron Torres crossed the ball into the box and Jeffrey Cabrera swooped in to finish with a goal.

After a hard fought first 20 minutes of the second half the Leps were once again able to break through. This time on a 25 yard missile from Raul Mancera, who received the ball from Eli Rios. This moves the Leopards record to 6-1-1 overall and 2-0 in district play.

Lady Leps

Win 4-1

The La Grange Lady Leps varsity soccer team defeated Cameron Yoe at home on Friday night by a score of 4-1. The Lady Leps scored two goals in each half.

Their opening goal featured a textbook right-to-left switch of field. After winning the Cameron goal kick, striker Melanie Cruz played a square ball to center midfielder Lily Banks; Banks played a square ball to left midfielder Miriam Lopez; and Lopez played a perfectly paced through ball to striker Raylee Gutierrez - who finished the sequence with a near post goal.

Later in the first half, Gutierrez scored her second goal of the game off of a pass down the right sidelines by Banks.

After halftime, the Lady Leps scored two more times to take a 4-0 lead: a shot taken from inside the box by Banks off the dribble; and a one-touch shot taken from 38 yards out by Cruz, off a throwin by midfielder Kyla Colon.

The Lady Leps exhibited solid team defense - a reflection on the strong communication and play of goalkeeper Hope Michalke and defenders Trinity Yanis, Eliza Luna, Kayden Yanis, Juliana Vasquez and Jazlyn Torres.

After the game, Coach Barry Donovan channeled fellow coach Ted Lasso, observing: “The team has realized that soccer is a lot like a good box of biscuits. It’s sweet, it’s crumbly, and it’s better when you share it with friends. Our ladies shared the ball beautifully today. I haven’t seen chemistry like this since I accidentally mixed baking soda and vinegar in 5th-grade science class. Except this didn’t make a mess; it made a masterpiece.”

With a bye on Tuesday, the Lady Leps Varsity Soccer team resumes district play at home against Caldwell on Friday, January 23. Kickoff is 5:15 p.m.
