La Grange Boys Edge 5A Victoria East by Six Points
The La Grange boys basketball team got 19 points from Brandon Mathis and 10 from Conner Brooks as the Leps beat 5A Victoria East Friday at home 45-39.
Both Mathis and Brooks grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in the game as well.
Caleb Norwood added eight points for the Leps, Mason Kleiber four, Cole Collier three, and Chris Supak one as the Leps improved to 11-4 overall.
Friday’s victory comes on the heels of Tuesday’s loss to Lexington, but La Grange head coach Trent Collier said his team was able to put aside much of what ailed them earlier in the week.
“When we played Lexington they took advantage of a couple of things we didn’t do very well. One of those things was transition defense and another thing was rebounding. We didn’t block out very well. I thought we did a lot better job on the glass today, and I thought that even though we did give up a few transition buckets today, I thought we had more white jerseys back in the mix than we ever did against Lexington,” Collier said. “Once everything comes together I think we’re going to be pretty good. I was proud of them. I thought it was a great team effort today.”
The La Grange boys won’t play again until the Vanguard Tournament in Waco, beginning Dec. 29. – Jeff Wick
