Jena Jobb Still Shines Despite Injury-Filled Sophomore Season in College
La Grange High School graduate Jena Jobb’s sophomore season playing volleyball for Hannibal-LaGrange University in Missouri was cut short because of an injury, but still resulted on her getting elected as a team captain.
Here’s some thoughts on Jobb’s sophomore season courtesy of Kelsey Pollard, the Head Volleyball Coach for Hannibal LaGrange University.
“Having Jena Jobb this year was a complete pleasure. She is full of personality on and off the court, is respectful, hardworking, and caring of others. As her coach, I am ecstatic to be returning a player for next year that has the character and grit of a college athlete.
“Although Jena ended up not being able to play for most of the season, her impact in the short time on the court did not go unnoticed. Jena went down week 3 of the season with an ankle injury and spent most of the season in a boot. The team missed her on the court. In her 8 game run for the Trojans, she contributed 31 kills, 85 digs, and had 98 successful receptions. Her impact spread much further than that as she was named captain and was often times, the loudest person on and off the court. When asking Jena what her favorite part about this year was – she responded with ‘you as my coaches and having a fun season overall.’ This says a lot about her true nature. She is not a collegiate athlete for the wins and losses but for looking for true leadership in Christ, athleticism, and the friendships built with teammates. She sees the truly bigger perspective on life and it shines on the court making her a perfect leader. Coaches can always count on her to leave it all on the floor every practice and every game.”
