Hoops: Lady Leps Blow Out Giddings, While Conner Brooks Leads Leps to Narrow Win Over Buffaloes

It was a big night in Giddings Friday for La Grange as both varsity basketball teams beat the Buffaloes.

The La Grange girls basketball team overwhelmed Giddings Friday 75-25 as the Lady Leps improved to 21-8 overall and 3-0 in district. The Lady Leps host Caldwell Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.

La Grange 3-0 Navasota 3-0 Smithville 2-1 Bellville 1-2 Caldwell 0-3 Giddings 0-3 The La Grange boys, meanwhile, had a little tougher time, but still prevailed 4038.

Giddings nailed a gametying three pointer with about five seconds left in the game, but La Grange junior Conner Brooks was fouled as he tried for a go-ahead shot with 2.7 seconds left in the game.

Brooks made one of his two free throws and then got his own rebound, was fouled and again hit one of two free throws to win the game.

Brooks scored 14 points. Brandon Mathis had nine, Mason Kleiber seven, Cole Collier six, and Caleb Norwood four.

The Leps are now 16-8 overall and 1-0 in district and host Caldwell this Tuesday as the second part of a home doubleheader. The boys game will begin about 7 p.m.
