Get Moving With Walk Across Texas
Create healthy habits, lower your risk of disease, meet new friends, and achieve your 2026 health goals. Also celebrate America’s 250th Birthday by planning to visit National and Texas historic sites and/or parks over the next year. Join Fayette County’s eight-week Walk Across Texas (WAT) program which starts March 8.
Walking is one of the least expensive and easiest ways to get fit says Sally Garrett, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agent-Family & Community Heath. Physical activity helps reduce your risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Increase your chances for success by creating a team of eight and joining your teammates as you walk towards a healthier lifestyle. Walk Across Texas is life changing. By completing the eight-week program, you will feel better, lower your stress level, and get all the additional benefits of regular physical activity, not to mention creating long-standing, healthy habits of physical activity.
A weekly newsletter with possible historic sites you and family can plan to visit will be sent out to all WAT members, states Garrett. The top 3 (three) individual participants, who have the highest number of miles walked over the 8 weeks will receive gift cards.
There is no cost for this exercise program, and you can sign up online. Challenge your friends, family members, and/ or co-workers to sign up. Other forms of physical activity can also count on your weekly activity log. To learn more or register go to howdyhealth.tamu. edu.
