Four Senior Co-Captains Lead the Surging Lady Leopards Soccer Squad
The La Grange girls soccer team has gotten off to a strong start to the season (3-0).
A big reason for that has been the leadership shown by their four senior co-captains – Hope Michalke, Trinity Yanis, Kyla Colon and Kaylee Soto.
Because of that leadership we are proud to honor these four as this week’s Fayette County Athletes of the Week.
We caught up will all four after last Friday’s 4-0 victory over Palacios. Here’s some highlights from those interviews: “We’ve been putting in a lot of work in practice and giving it our all,” said Michalke, who is the team’s goalie. “We’ve definitely tried to do our best to be role models for everyone else. It is surreal to know this is our last season but we are trying to make the most of it.”
Friday’s victory capped a big week for the Lady Leps that saw them out-score their opponents 7-0.
“I know how hard we’ve been working, and we have really good players so it’s well deserved,” said Yanis, of the team’s early success. “I feel like we are going to go far this year – end on a good note.”
Even though the team has just recently started its season, the players have been practicing for weeks.
“I’m really proud of us. I think we’ve come a long way since the first practice,” Colon said. “We’ve been working really well together and meshing well and our play has really shown it.”
Soto has been a prolific goal scorer for the Lady Leps ever since she was a freshman but has been battling through some injuries early this season.
“I’m a little injured. It’s a bit of a struggle, but it’s crazy to see how from the beginning of the season to now, we’ve built so much,” Soto said. “We just mesh so well together.”
The Lady Leps play at home this Friday against Cameron at 7:15 p.m.
