Fayette County Swimmers Compete At the State-Level Games of Texas
Fayette County swimmers made waves at the 2025 Games of Texas held in College Station, proudly representing Region 5 and the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF). This annual state-level event showcases top athletes from across Texas who qualify through regional competitions in a wide range of sports, including swimming, track and field, soccer, and more.
TAAF, the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation, is a nonprofit organization that promotes and organizes athletic competitions for amateur athletes of all ages across the state. Their mission is to encourage healthy lifestyles and sportsmanship through community-based programs and events like the Games of Texas.
This year, dozens of local swimmers—ranging from 6 to 18 years old—earned the opportunity to compete after strong performances at the Region 5 TAAF Championship Meet in Bryan earlier this summer. Over four days of intense competition, Fayette County swimmers held their own against athletes from across Texas, many of whom train year-round.
“Our swimmers continue to impress us with their grit, sportsmanship, and passion for the sport,” said Coach Gretchen Ledwik. “Most of our team only trains for two months in the summer and still shows up ready to compete against kids who swim all year. That says a lot about their work ethic and determination.”
Coach Sequoya Janacek added, “These kids never back down from a challenge. Watching them drop time, cheer for each other, and walk away with smiles (and medals) makes all the early mornings and hot pool decks worth it.”
In addition to individual events, several Fayette County swimmers also competed in relays, earning medals and top finishes across multiple age divisions. Highlights included personal best times, podium finishes, and even a relay team qualifying for the 2026 National State Games of America in Pennsylvania.
The Games of Texas not only offer a chance for young athletes to test their skills at the state level but also promote camaraderie, confidence, and a lifelong love for sports.
Congratulations to all our local swimmers for representing Fayette County with pride!
