Bruns Turns Flatonia Baseball Over to Mica

Legendary Flatonia baseball coach Shawn Bruns has informed Flatonia ISD that he plans to step down as head coach of the baseball team but remain as the school’s assistant athletic director.

Bruns’ former player and current assistant coach Colby Mica will take over as head baseball coach.

Bruns was the head coach for all three of Flatonia’s state baseball titles, in 1993, and then back-to-back state titles in 2015 and 2016.

He was the baseball coach of the Bulldogs from 1992 to 2016, then coached softball at Flatonia for several years when his daughters were playing, and then returned as baseball coach in 2024 and led the Bulldogs back to the state semis last season. This year the Bulldogs (19-11-1) marched to regional semifinal before falling to Burton.
