Banks, Yanis Boot Goals as LG Soccer Wins Again

OnTuesday, the La Grange Lady Leps Varsity Soccer team defeated the Manor New Tech Titans at New Tech Coliseum by a score of 2-1. With the victory, the Lady Leps improved their district record to 5-1. The Lady Leps have won seven of their last eight contests.

The Titans struck first, finding the back of the net on a fast-break goal within the opening five minutes of play. Fortunately, the Lady Leps responded quickly. Less than five minutes later, freshman Lily Banks equalized the score, a 1-1 deadlock that held through halftime.

The Lady Leps played strong defensively after the Titans’ goal, shutting out the Titans for the final 75 minutes of play. The Lady Leps’ offensive breakthrough arrived with 11 minutes remaining in regulation. After a shot by Banks rebounded off the upright, freshman Kayden Yanis was there to follow up, escorting the ball into the net for the game-winning goal.

Coach Barry Donovan, channeling fellow coach Ted Lasso, “Turning an early 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win? That takes heart. But here’s the trick: you gotta be a goldfish with your wins, too. If we spend too long staring at this victory in the rearview mirror, we’re gonna drive right into a ditch on Friday. Ten-second dance party, then eyes forward on Giddings.”

In earlier action on Tuesday, the Lady Leps JV team lost 7-0 The Lady Leps Varsity and JV teams travel to Giddings this Friday, February 6. JV kickoff is 5:15 p.m.; with Varsity kicking off at 7:15 p.m.
