The ZZ Top La Grange Concert: 10 Years Later

Ten years ago this week probably the biggest concert in the history of this area was held when ZZ Top played at the Fayette County Fair in front of an estimated crowd of 18,000. People from all over the nation came to town to hear the iconic song “La Grange” played in La Grange for the first time.

Museum to Host Texas Heroes Day Special Event Sept. 20

Texas Heroes Day will be having a special event Sept. 20, at the Texas Heroes Museum located in the Fayette County Old Jail, 171 S. Main St., La Grange. You can visit with Vietnam Donut Dolly Joyce Denke and see the video “A Touch of Home.”

Rosa Meinecke Award Winners

Little Readers And Big Adventures Coming to The Stanzel Museum

The Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum is opening its doors to young readers and their families for a day of fairy tale magic. On Saturday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., children are invited to join Little Readers, Big Adventures, a free early childhood literacy event presented in partnership with Parents as Teachers and BRIDGE.

Animal Shelter Update

As of Aug. 22, the total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 1207: 508 dogs and 699 cats in need. There are 138 animals in care: 50 dogs and 88 cats. The shelter is desperate for more dog walkers, kitten cuddlers, laundry washers, puppy bathers. You won’t regret volunteering. Statistics for the week of Aug. 16-22 include: Intake: 23 Adoptions: 13 Transferred to Rescue: 33 Return to Owner: 0 Humane Euthanasia: 0
