Fifty-five years ago, Jodie Hermes, along with Lawrence Svetlik, gathered some friends and formed a band, The Red Ravens, to continue the music legacy of Lavaca County. The original members were Jodie, Lawrence, Leroy Rybak, Daniel Matula, Eugene Mucala, and Thomas Hermes.

Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange will host the 13th annual Heritage Fest & Muziky on Oct. 17-18. The Festival will begin on Friday evening on the terrace in front of the Main Center with the Octoberfest on the Deck beginning at 4:30 p.m. with music by the Dujka Brothers from 6 - 9:30 p.m. Mark and John Dujka have been making music together for over 36 years and have several acknowledgements to their name. TCHCC’s famous homemade Chicken & Dumplings will be served while it lasts in the Hanslik Banquet Hall beginning at 5:30 p.m.. Bring your lawn chairs, but leave your coolers at home, please.

Hundreds of fourth graders from all over Fayette County spent Tuesday at the Fayette County Fairgrounds for the annual Farm Bureau Ag Day. Spread out over nine stations volunteers talked to the students about every thing from dairy and beef cattle production to goats, plants, bees, cotton, poultry and wildlife. Sheriff Keith Korenek and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office are pleased to announce the return of the annual Deputy Santa Program, running from Dec. 1-16. This cherished initiative brings holiday joy to children across Fayette County, with toy distribution scheduled for Dec. 17 at three designated locations in La Grange, Schulenburg, and Flatonia.

Roberta Gullick’s granddaughter, Juliet Hill, has reached a true milestone in her young life. After years of Roberta asking for prayers for Juliet to be cured of her cancer, Juliet has been declared cancer free.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the 2nd annual fun run must be cancelled this year in Winchester. The run was scheduled for Oct. 18. Currently there are no plans to reschedule. For more information, contact Michele Weth at sweetcity@aol. com.
