LCRA, Bluebonnet Electric Co-op Award $25,000 Grant for Renovations to Carmine Hall

Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein soon will renovate the popular meeting spot Carmine Hall, thanks to a $25,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative. The community grant, along with more than $225,000 in matching funds from the organization, will support a complete rebuild of the lower section of the hall, including updates to the kitchen, seating, storage, restrooms, flooring and HVAC system, ensuring Carmine Hall continues to serve as the primary gathering place for local families and organizations.

Remembering the Famous ‘Old Blue’

Saddle of Famous Ox Donated to Museum Ed Tobias of Ellinger used to ride his trained steer, “Blue,” in local parades until the old ox passed away in 1979. Blue was so famous that Tobias had his head mounted and donated it to the Fayette Public Library, Museum and Archives, where it has proudly been displayed ever since.

Round Top Christmas Tree to be Lit Friday

The Town of Round Top invites everyone to celebrate the holiday season at the Round Top Tree Lighting on Friday, November 28. The evening will be filled with small-town charm, twinkling lights, and the kind of special moments that bring neighbors together.
The Town of Round Top will hold a Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Friday, Nov. 28, at 6:30 p.m.

Feed the Need Distributes 180 Gobble Kits for Thanksgiving Here

More than 60 volunteers helped distribute 180 Gobble Kits (family Thanksgiving dinner kits) along with their weekly distribution of hamburgers Monday on the courthouse square in La Grange as part of Feed the Need’s efforts here. Feed the Need founder Jonah Beyer said the event here, along with four distribution sites in Bastrop County, included more than 10,000 pounds of turkeys and 830 families were helped this Thanksgiving across the region. Mark Rotter Receives War Service Medal

The Robert Rankin Chapter No. 62 of The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR) presented fellow member, Mark Rotter, resident of Fayette County, with the War Service Medal for his service in the Gulf/Iraq War at the chapter’s Veterans Day Celebration. Rotter’s ancestral US Patriot is Nicolas Faust, PA.

Animal Shelter Update

The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for all normal operations. The shelter is closed to the public on Mondays with staff onsite for animal care from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Reclaims are allowed on Monday after 10 a.m. by appointment. If you believe your lost pet may be in care, call (979) 966-0021.
