The 2025 Round Top Christmas Parade on Dec. 6 proudly featured a float from the Do Your Duty Organization (DYD), a women-led community group established in 1935. DYD’s long-standing mission is to serve Round Top through heritage preservation, beautification of the historic courthouse square, and charitable giving.

During the annual Shelby American Legion Post No. 602 annual Christmas party, held on Dec. 2 at the Post, the post recognized the following people: Alvin Minarcik received a Certificate of Appreciation for his support of the Post. Especially for him providing music during the annual Memorial Day Ceremony held on the Fayetteville Square. American Legion Members recognized for their continuous service were: Winfred Eben - 60 years; Leebert Brune - 25 years; Wayne Fruge - 15 years; Ben Madison - 5 years.

The La Grange Salvation Army donated to the Veterans Outreach Project for the VA Clinic in La Grange that is sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary No. 5254 of La Grange. Jesse Lednicky, Fayette County Veterans Service Officer and Fayette County Salvation Army Chapter President, along with Becky Leer, Salvation Army member and Chairman of the VFW Auxiliary No. 5254 Veterans Outreach Project, shopped for items for Veterans that were delivered to the VA Clinic in La Grange on Dec. 4. The La Grange Salvation Army also recently made a donation the AMEN Food pantry in La Grange.

Sunday at Sealand in La Grange, the local Marine Corps League hosted a dinner and Missing Man Table ceremony to honor the brave sailors that died during the Pearl Harbor bombing, December 7, 1941. Above are the attendees and below is a photo of the Missing Man Table. Nellie Vannell did the Missing Man Table ceremony. Kathy Schenck was a speaker who did an overview on what happened that day at Pearl Harbor. They also viewed a video of the president declaring war after the Pearl Harbor bombing.

The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for all normal operations. The shelter is closed Monday to the public with staff onsite for animal care from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
