A Matter of Balance Series Begins Feb. 17

The “A Matter of Balance” (AMoB) series will be conducted starting Tuesday, Feb. 17. The AMoB is a series of eight 1½ hour sessions which will be conducted each Tuesday and Thursday from 3 - 4:30 p.m. through March 12 at the Randolph Recreational Center, Building B, 653 East Pearl Street in La Grange. This is a program which is a partnership of the Area Agency on Aging, Fayette County Committee on Aging, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Fayette County.

Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets Jan. 5, New 2026 Officers Installed

The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday Jan. 5 in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard financial reports. Members were reminded that dues for the 2026 year are now due. Two thank you notes were read for remembrances received. Eighteen ladies attended the meeting.

Round Top Family Library Chili Cook-Off Saturday

The 2026 Chili Cook-Off is this Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Be sure to wear your Red, White & Blue when you join the fun Over 30 teams are signed up to compete in this year’s exciting cook-off competition with prize money for the first place teams in the Traditional Division and Open Division. Black Cat Choir will delight the crowd with their amazing live music and there are lots of things planned for your little ones.

Sacred Heart Catholic School Presents “Lessons & Carols” Christmas Program

Sacred Heart Catholic School held its annual Christmas Program, titled “Lessons & Carols: A Night of the Arts” on Thursday, Dec. 18 at Sacred Heart Church. This beautiful and time-honored service told the story of the Fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus all through a series of Scripture readings and hymns. An Art Show was held in conjunction with the program and featured the students’ beautiful Advent and Christmas-themed art projects. PTC served cookies, punch, and hot cocoa to end a wonderful evening.

Local Volunteers Receive 2025 Community Service Award

W The 2025 Community Service Award was presented to the local area men who helped in the renovations, beautification, and upkeep of Zilss Hall and grounds. Recognized were Mike Weth, posthumously; Daniel Gersch, Chuck Breeden, Richard Schafer, Tom Atkins, Denby Morrison and Sherwood Gersch.
2026 Officers for Winchester Area Civic Association were announced recently. They are Michele Weth-Chairman; Dinah Breeden-Vice Chairman; Nicolette Morrison-Treasurer; and Tammy Youngblood-Secretary.

Couple Enjoys Memorable Return Trip to Denmark

Sharon and Anthony Haas planned a vacation to return to Denmark and see friends they met when they lived there years ago. They had quite a magical trip. The following photos reflect segments of several stops along their visit. They departed Sept. 12, 2025 and flew to Copenhagen, Denmark. They had a great time and enjoyed having The Record with them.

Quilt Guild Presents Quilt of Valor to Local Vet

Anita Todd, representing the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild, presented Raymond Urban Jr., VVA Chapter 870 Member, with Quilts of Valor. Also pictured is Ron Dorsey Treasurer of VVA No. 870, Don Christen Vice President of VVA No. 870 and not in the picture was Andy Janda President of VVA No. 870. The lady behind Ray is his wife Billie Urban The Quilt was made and donated by the Members of Colorado Valley Quilt Guild of La Grange, in partnership with the Quilts of Valor Foundation. The National Quilts of Valor Foundation has awarded quilts to over 414,000 veterans since its creation in 2003.
