WINCHESTER News
Back at School
School has started and children will be waiting in Winchester at area bus stops and riding on school buses. Please help keep them safe. You must yield the right-of-way to school buses. Always drive carefully when you are near a school bus. If you approach a school bus from either direction and the bus is displaying alternately flashing red lights, you must stop. Do not pass the school bus until the school bus has resumed motion; you are signaled by the driver you may proceed; or the red lights are no longer flashing. It is not necessary to stop when passing a school bus on a different road or on a controlled-access highway where the bus is stopped in a loading zone and pedestrians are not permitted to cross. A person who fails to obey the law regarding yielding the right-of-way to school buses displaying alternating, flashing lights is subject to penalties.
Recycling Trailer
All cardboard boxes need to be broken down before placing them in the recycling trailer. The Winchester Recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall Street. Place your recycling in the appropriate bins. .
Winchester Quilt Block Trail Drive out to Winchester, pick up a map at Murphy’s or Zilss Hall, and enjoy viewing the 65 quilt blocks displayed in our area on the Quilt Block Trail. The trail is self-driven, available at your convenience, and is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon viewing quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road. Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps may be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, Zilss Hall, Murphy’s Steakhouse, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville, and La Grange.
