Time Travelers Wanted to Rock and Roll at the Sock Hop Feb. 7

Get ready to jump, jive and twist on the dance floor at the Happy Days Community Sock Hop. Bring your family, friends and neighbors to the Schulenburg Hall for a free, family-friendly afternoon of retro music, dancing and fun.

Hosted through a collaboration of local nonprofits, the sock hop will take place Saturday, Feb. 7, from 3 - 6 p.m. at the Schulenburg Hall, formally known as the KC Hall.

Open to all ages, the event invites everyone to dust off their saddle shoes, grab a poodle skirt or letterman’s sweater, and join this event inspired by the classic sock hop school dances of the 1950s.

The fun kicks off at 3 p.m. with sign-in and time to explore community booths hosted by participating nonprofit organizations. Whether attendees are longtime residents or new faces, the booths offer a chance to connect with groups that support families, seniors, arts, education, and community well-being throughout the region.

At 3:30 p.m., the dance floor will warm up with a Twist and Swing dance tutorial, perfect for beginners and seasoned dancers alike. Bring your dance energy and enter the dance contests, which invite participants to show off their best moves.

The Happy Days Community Sock Hop is made possible by a wide range of nonprofit partners, including Parents as Teachers Rural South-Central Texas, Turtle Wing Foundation, Arts for Rural Texas, ACCSS, Senior Connections, Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum, Schulenburg Historical Museum, And Then, BRIDGE and God’s Embrace Ministries. Together, these organizations are celebrating the joy of community while highlighting the many resources available locally.

Organizers state the goal of this community event is simple: to gather all generations to come together, have fun, and strengthen community ties at no cost to families. Happy Days Community Sock Hop is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to come ready to dance, cheer, and enjoy making memories with their families, friends, and neighbors.
