Senior Connections Offers a Full Calendar of Events
This week at Senior Connections, we’re excited to welcome our vibrant community of seniors aged 55 and up to two fantastic locations: our Schulenberg campus at 1111 Bohlmann Ave. and the Weimar campus at the First United Methodist Church, 301 W. Saint Charles St. Doors open from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. ready to enhance your quality of life with engaging activities, delicious meals, and warm connections.
A warm welcome in Schulenburg on Monday, Aug. 18, kicks off the week where members can expect a friendly greeting at the door and a warm cup of coffee to start the day. As everyone settles in, it’s the perfect time to catch up with friends over a game of dominoes.
At 11:15 a.m. we’ll gather for announcements, share prayer concerns, and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. This week’s culinary treat comes from Connie Koopmann Catering, our mayor and board member, who has prepared a delightful meal of beef tips served with rice and fresh seasonal vegetables. Members sign up to bring desserts to share, and with our growing attendance, we now need two members to bake for dessert day who will surprise us with their creations?
Additionally, it’s our Cookie Round-Up day. Members are encouraged to donate cookies, which will be packaged and given to our speakers and community supporters who help make our programs successful.
Following lunch, our Lunch and Learn program features Morgan and Colton Bubela from the B Haus Garden Center and Tree Farm. They will tell about themselves and their businesses, then share tips on preparing for fall gardens, so bring your gardening questions and ideas.
Excitingly, we’re introducing a new bingo caller, Samantha from Anytime Fitness, who will join on the third Monday of every month. We’re thrilled to have her on board.
We’ll be at the First United Methodist Church in Weimar on Tuesday, Aug. 19. Get your dominoes flying. True Care Living will be on hand for blood pressure screenings from 10 - 11 a.m. Don’t worry, it won’t interrupt your domino games.
For lunch, enjoy a hearty home-cooked meal of hamburger mac and cheese paired with mixed veggies, homemade cornbread, and delicious desserts from our wonderful volunteers. Their dedication to serving fellow seniors is commendable, and they bake. So let’s give them a round of applause.
At noon, Weimar City Manager Donald Dixon will join us for our Lunch and Learn, providing insights into city affairs and answering your questions. Sandy Anderson from True Care Living will be back at 12:30 p.m. to lead our bingo game be ready for a full house of fun.
When we return to Schulenburg on Wednesday, Aug. 20, we will celebrate the birthdays of all campus members. Join us at 11 a.m. for a group photo and to share in the joy of our community.
Lunch will feature Oakridge’s famous fried chicken and buttery potatoes accompanied by a splendid salad made by our volunteers. We’ll need three cakes from our members to ensure we have enough for everyone to enjoy.
Joanne from Schulenberg Regency Villas Independent Living will join us for bingo, and we hope to see some of their residents too.
