Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets Oct. 6

The Sacred HeartAltar Society members met on Monday, Oct. 6, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports provided by the treasurer, secretary and assistant treasurer. One card of thanks was read to members in appreciation for remembrances received. Sixteen ladies attended the meeting.

The Spirituality Report was provided by Marian Tajchman. The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. It is also Respect Life Month where we are reminded that we are all created in the image and likeness of God, from conception until natural death. Among the many feast days celebrated in October, is the feast day of a most recent canonized Saint, St. Carlos Acutis on Oct. 12. We also commemorate the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels on Oct. 2 reminding us of God’s care and protection provided to us in the form of angels. All Hallows’ Eve celebrated on Oct. 31 prepares us to focus our thoughts on the upcoming All Saints Day and All Souls Day commemorations.

Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek spoke about setting up the Remembrance Table in the Narthex to honor and remember the deceased. Pictures can be placed on the table beginning Oct. 20. She also reported that more crosses worn by Extraordinary Ministers need to be ordered. Judy Langhamer announced that she is working on the 2026 flower list and will welcome special requests by donors for specific days. She can be reached by call or text. She reminded us that all parishioners, not just Altar Society members are invited to take part in providing flowers for the altar. Marian commented that the plants hold up especially well on the altars since the flowers remain on the altar for the entire week. It was reported that Peggy Sulik, Elaine Bodine and member volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.

Under the Service Commission, April Feray reported on the Enrollments received by the Clerical Endowment Fund during the month of September. Emma reported that two get-well cards had been sent during the previous month. Barbara Schellberg gave her report on the CEF enrollments and Karen Janda also reported on an enrollment that she had done. Judy gave the financial report of the Parish Council of Catholic Women and reported that no funeral lunches had been hosted during the previous month.

Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that there were no new members to report. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.

Under new business members were reminded that the next ECCW meeting will be in Rockdale on Oct. 28. It was noted that Nov. 3 is Father Chris’ birthday and discussion was held regarding a gift to honor his special day. Karen spoke briefly about the Blessing of the Pets to take place at the school playgrounds on Friday, October 10. She also invited everyone to attend the school mass on Friday October 31 where the Pre-K-3 students will portray various saints at the Mass. Following the Mass, the 3rd – 6th grade students of Sacred Heart School will host a Saints Living Museum in the gym from 10-11 a.m. The public is invited to come and learn more about various Saints represented by the students.

Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 3, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
