Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Nov. 3, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports provided by the secretary and assistant treasurer. One thank you card was read to members in appreciation for remembrances received. Fourteen ladies attended the meeting.
The Spirituality Report provided by Marian Tajchman reminded us that fall can be a time of spiritual reflection. Much like nature shedding its leaves to prepare for winter, we too should embrace the season of fall as a time for letting go, as well as a time for preparing for the future ahead. She provided each member with a handout to allow for individual time of spiritual reflection.
Church Preparation Co-Chair Gracie Fucik read a report prepared by Earline which spoke briefly about the remembrance table in the Narthex which honors those who have gone before us during this month of All Souls. She also conveyed a discussion regarding the changing of altar cloths for daily Masses. She expressed her thanks to all committee members who have been keeping up with all the changes and spoke about the plan to simplify the process going forward. All other duties of this committee are being taken care of as needed. Judy reported that she has basically completed the flower list for 2026 with only one weekend open at this time. The final copy is expected to be ready for print by the end of next month. It was reported that Peggy Sulik, Elaine Bodine and member volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.
Under the Service Commission, April Feray reported on the Enrollments received by the Clerical Endowment Fund during the month of October. Judy reported that no funeral lunches had been hosted during the previous month and gave the financial report of the Parish Council of Catholic Women.
Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that there are no new members to report. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.
Under unfinished business, Judy gave her report on the ECCW meeting held in Rockdale on Oct. 28. Thirtyfive ladies and one priest attended the meeting. Father John from the Rockdale Parish spoke about the importance of the work of the Altar Society ladies in Parishes in the Diocese and about the need to educate more people about the Clerical Endowment Fund in general. CEF was established to support education of seminarians in the Austin Diocese and is funded through donations, enrollments and Mass cards. Each time an individual is enrolled, both the donor and those enrolled receive spiritual benefits including remembrances and Mass intentions. It is the hope that more parishioners will come to understand the importance of the CEF and participate in the benefits. Judy also noted that the 2026 dues are now due and that the next meeting of the Brenham/La Grange Deanery will be held in Brenham on Jan. 27, 2026.
Under new business, Doris Lidiak spoke about the cookies for the homebound project hosted jointly by the Altar Society and CDA members. The event will be held on Dec. 9 this year and all parishioners are welcome to participate. Cookies can be dropped off at the Narthex beginning at 7:30 a.m. on that day. A Christmas ornament which will be included in the bags was available for members to view. Karen next reported that Earline Trlicek had volunteered to chair the nominating committee for the slate of officers for the upcoming year with April Feray volunteering to assist.
Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 10 beginning at 5:45 p.m.
