Amalia “Molly” Rorschach, a junior at Schulenburg High School, recently attended the Washington Journalism and Media Conference (WJMC), in Fairfax, VA, in July. The conference is a week long, and it is for aspiring youth journalists who are rising juniors and seniors in high school.

Once the conference comes to an end, many opportunities are offered to alumni who wish to remain involved in future conferences. One of these opportunities is membership on the WJMC Youth Advisory Board (YAB). TheYAB helps improve future conferences and works closely with the program directors as well as the Senior Advisory Board to select the next class of National Youth Correspondents from all fifty states and U.S. territories. She, along with more than two hundred other past National Youth Correspondents, applied for one of the fifty available spots.

Fortunately, she was accepted into the program. In addition to assisting with future conferences, she will also be eligible to apply for the very competitive internship program, which is something she is eager to pursue. WJMC interns attend the two conference sessions during the summer, as well as the week prior, to help prepare for it. Their responsibilities include assisting with operations throughout the week as well as helping lead various conference events.

With this position, Amalia will receive a $5,000 scholarship to attend George Mason University, should she choose to enroll. More information regarding her duties on the Youth Advisory Board, as well as updates on her internship application, will be released later in the fall.
