The La Grange Juneteenth Committee held the fifth annual Dr. Martin Luther King Day Walk on Monday, Jan. 19. Pictured above are participants making their way down Washington St. towards the Fayette County Courthouse. This year organizers honored the late Rodney Johnson, a prominent member of the La Grange African American community. Pictured below, left is Rodney’s widow Shalonda introducing their children and some of Rodney’s close family members to the audience. Below, right, are members of the La Grange Juneteenth Committee gathered on the steps of the courthouse. This year’s guest speaker was former Bastrop County Judge Ronnie Mc-Donald, who gave a rousing speech about unity in the community. The event was made possible by several sponsors, especially Second Chance Emporium.
