The La Grange Noon Lions Club took a unique turn at their recent meeting, shifting the spotlight inward to hear the life stories of their very own members. Typically, the club welcomes outside guest speakers, but this week, Lions shared personal journeys that left the audience inspired and proud to be part of such a diverse and accomplished group.

La Grange Noon Lions President Diana Wilson stated, “Our members have the most fascinating stories. They have blessed others in our community and around the globe. Both in their professional life and in their volunteerism, the Lions exemplify our motto “We Serve.”

Lion Arnold Romberg shared his remarkable journey of graduating high school at just 16 and pursuing a career in computer science in the 1960s—an era when the field was still in its infancy. Together with his late, beloved wife, Arnold built a life in La Grange, residing in a beautiful home on North Main Street near the train. His story was one of vision, love, and embracing the unknown. He loves serving the Lions, the Library, the Train Museum, and the Faison House.

Lion Joe Bailey, a proud Texas Longhorn, recounted his early crossroads between dentistry and banking, ultimately choosing a career in finance. Joe played a key role in launching one of Houston’s first Spanish-speaking banks, and later, one of Texas’s earliest online-oriented banks. His story highlighted both innovation and inclusivity in serving communities.

Lion Chuck Gibson captivated the audience with tales from his two extraordinary careers. First, as a daring Army helicopter pilot, and later as a safety expert with United Space Alliance at NASA. Chuck stood in launch control during numerous space shuttle missions, witnessing unforgettable liftoffs—especially the breathtaking nighttime launches. His passion for both service and adventure shone through.

Lion Karen Mahoney Woods, an attorney, reflected on her career path shaped by mentorship, early adoption of word processing technology, and her lifelong dedication to service. She shared her excitement for her current project: a tree-planting initiative to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, embodying her commitment to building a stronger and greener future.

“This meeting was special,” said Lion Craig Moreau, Lions Zone Chair. “Hearing from our own Lions reminded us that incredible stories of service, innovation, and resilience are right here within our club. These are people who have not only lived remarkable lives but continue to make a difference every day. They inspire our next generation of compassionate leaders.”

The La Grange Noon Lions Club remains committed to serving the community through fellowship, leadership, and service.
