KJZT Society No. 31 Holds Quarterly Meeting
On Aug. 18, the third quarterly social/meeting of KJZT Family Life, Society No. 31 St. Frances of Rome of La Grange was held at 4:30 p.m. in the Immaculate Heart Room at Sacred Heart Church. President Elizabeth Kallus led opening prayers especially remembering deceased members Marge Rosenberg, Irene Michalsky, and Gladys Kristof. Then the Pledges to the U.S. and Texas Flag were recited.
The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed, Treasurer Barbara Eilert filed her report, and bills were approved for payment. Secretary Marilyn Kothmann read several thank you notes and KJZT State Office correspondence.
KJZT Clerical Endowment Fund enrollments report by Vice President Nicole Vasut showed five special birthdays and ten sympathies by Society 31, and thirty enrollments by individuals. Two cheer cards were sent; and a mass was given for the intention of each deceased member. Kallus gave the publicity and KJZT Traveling Unity Rosary reports.
Unfinished business of Society 31 happenings: A report about the XXXVII Regular General Convention of KJZT Family Life that was held in La Grange with a pre-convention social at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center on Friday, July 11, and the convention at the KC Hall on Saturday, July 12 was given by delegates Kallus and Kothmann, who were committee co-chairpersons of hospitality, credentials, and mileage. There were 128 delegates with 56 Societies represented, plus 6 Directors and 2 State Officers. They talked about the approved bylaw changes, fraternal funding and society structure graph, and convention gifts of which Sacred Heart Catholic School in La Grange is one of the recipients.
Under New Business, a letter from KJZT State about the floods in the Texas Hill Country and surrounding areas was read. Societies were asked to donate with funds to be matched by KJZT State for the People Helping People Disaster Relief Program. Society 31 sent a donation for this purpose. The Annual Social for the Society will be Thursday, Nov. 6 beginning at 4 p.m.at Sealand in La Grange. Discussed and approved were clergy Christmas presents for 2025, the Community project of a Thanksgiving Basket for the Family Crisis Center, and People Helping People projects for 2026, namely Catholic Schools Week at the end of January and Sacred Heart School Spring Festival plant wheel booth on Palm Sunday.
