Habitat ReStore Hosts Food Drive For Schulenburg Food Pantry
Fayette County Habitat for Humanity is calling on our neighbors to come together in love, compassion, and action as we launch a community-wide food drive at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Schulenburg. Under the theme “ReStore Our Community,” we are asking families, churches, businesses, and individuals to help restock the shelves of the Schulenburg Food Pantry for those who are struggling most among us.
Right here in Fayette County, many families are battling hunger, loneliness, and hardship. They are not statistics, they are our neighbors, our church members, and our friends.
Ms. Bobbie, a 78-yearold widow, lives on less than $1,000 a month. She pays $250 every month for the mortgage on her small mobile home. Even before having her SNAP food benefits suspended, she was forced to choose between medication and groceries, between healthcare and hunger. Now, with those benefits gone, she faces even more desperate circumstances, too proud to complain, yet too hungry to ignore the pain.
Ms. Cindy, the surviving spouse of a Veteran, lives off of just $750 a month. Since her husband passed, she has had to delay essential home repairs she simply can’t afford. With limited income and no access to reliable, safe, and healthy food, her future feels heartbreakingly uncertain. She served her country through the sacrifices of her family and now she quietly goes to bed hungry.
These are not isolated stories. They are reminders that suffering exists quietly behind closed doors and that as Christians, neighbors, and compassionate human beings, we are called to respond. “For I was hungry and you gave me food whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me” (Matthew 25:35, 40) The Habitat ReStore in Schulenburg is now accepting donations of non-perishable food items, canned meats/ fruits/vegetables, rice, pasta, beans, and cereals.
All donations will go directly to the Schulenburg Food Pantry to support our neighbors in need.
At Fayette County Habitat for Humanity, we believe that neighbors take care of neighbors and that love is an action, not just a word. Let us be the hands and feet of Christ. Let us prove once again that Fayette County is, and always will be, the best place on earth to call home, because of people who care.
