Former Teacher Now Retired in LG Turns Author With Kids Book
Local author Carolyn Skonberg released her debut children’s book, “Itty Bitty Bugs.”
Skonberg describes the book as a “journey into a schoolhouse where beetles, butterflies, crickets, and grasshoppers are the students-and the first day of school is pure chaos (the good kind). Funny, heartwarming, and secretly educational, ‘Itty Bitty Bugs’ is perfect for young readers who love funny stories and bugs.
Skonberg is a retired 4th grade teacher from Cypress Fairbanks ISD, where she taught English Language Arts.
“My students flourished because I was a writer,” Skonberg said. “I began to share the stories I wrote with all my classes and that sparked the joy of writing.”
Skonberg said her new book is written with alliterations.
“Alliterations are a key tool in teaching students to expand their writing,” she said.
Skonberg retired from teaching in 2018 and moved to La Grange with her husband, Eric.
“Now I have the time to concentrate on my children’s books,” she said. “My next book is ‘Millie’s Flight,’ due out fall of 2026.
“Itty Bitty Bugs” is available on Amazon. Skonberg said she looks forward to reading in classrooms and libraries around the community to share her “buggy” world.
