Fayettevile’s Grand Fayette Hotel Undergoing Extensive Renovations
Carl Hoffman, General Contractor for the extensive renovation being performed on the Grand Fayette Hotel, attended the recent Fayetteville Historical Preservation Committee meeting to gain an understanding of the city ordinances applicable to the project. The primary objective is to carry out essential renovations in order to preserve the hotel for the next 100 years. This includes stabilizing the building with metal beam supports and updating its electrical and plumbing infrastructure. The brick is being repointed with new mortar that will resemble the original grout.
A craftsman is being located to repair the metal awning. Wood will be replaced and painted in historical colors. Hoffman will come back to the board for that approval. There will be no external design changes.
In addition, hotel owners Brian Chapline and Beth Hruska Chapline recently purchased the home adjacent to the hotel, the prior residence of Ed Sulak.

Memorial Service
The community of both St. Mary’s and St. John’s Catholic churches convened for a special memorial service to commemorate all who lost their lives in the Hill Country floods. The regularly scheduled 7 a.m. Mass on July 17 was performed as a funeral mass. While this Mass is usually in honor of an individual, they gathered as a community to pray for the 134 souls that passed and the 101 (at the time) that were unaccounted for ( these numbers were obtained from an ABC news report).
“The Mass in the Catholic church is one of the highest forms of prayer,” stated Fr. Steve Sauser. “We wanted to offer something publicly. Our usual attendance at the Thursday morning mass is around eight to 10 people. Approximately 50 were in attendance.”
