This weekend on Saturday, Oct. 4 the Fall Round Up will be happening at the Stray Gathering Cowboy Church in downtown Muldoon. The fun is set to begin at 10 a.m. the park in Muldoon. The grounds will be set up with all kinds of fun and games for the kids and adults.

Win a dessert on the dessert wheel. The prizes will all be homemade goodies. Bounce in the bounce house. Rope a calf. Take a fun picture in the photo booth. Check out all the games and meet some of your neighbors. Bring your kids, grandkids, favorite little people in your life and bring along all your friends. What a great way to spend your Saturday.

All this fun and you can eat there, too. Barbecue plates will be available for $12 each. Included on the plates will be homemade potato salad, beans and a dessert. Tim will be cooking peach cobbler in the Dutch oven. So, come sample some good old fashion BBQ and the trimmings, while enjoying the auctions. There will be both a silent and a live auction. The live auction is set to begin at 1 p.m. The fun will end with the drawing of the winning ticket for a really nice Hereford cross heifer. Church members will have raffle tickets available for $20 for a chance at this nice investment heifer. There also will be a 50/50 raffle. So, come ready to win something fun.

All the funds raised with this great family friendly Round Up will be going towards the costs of the land and new facilities, including a new rodeo arena.

Church News

Stray Gathering Cowboy Church recently held their first Men’s Prayer Breakfast at the pavilion on a Saturday morning. Tim was in charge of the food and reports of the food were really good, especially his signature biscuits and gravy. They talked of current events, Christianity, fellowship and topped it all off with prayer. This is to become a monthly meeting of the men and invite others to consider joining them next month.

SG2C is also gearing up for participation in Cowboys 4 Heroes at Fort Hood, honoring our nations’ heroes who give so much to protect our freedom. On Oct. 18 SG2C member, Tim Spice is planning on taking his chuck wagon to help feed military families at Fort Hood. If you would like to come out and help, contact Tim at (512) 423-2602 for more information.

Thursday nights are still going strong at SG2C with “Sweet Tea and Scripture”. All area ladies are invited to come out and join any Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. It is a great chance to expand your knowledge of the Bible with some really strong Christian ladies. They study the scripture and might even have a craft or two to help with the bonding of the group. What a wonderful way to get to know this great group of women.

Out and About

Frank and Kathy Chlumsky enjoyed a visit from their daughter Jennifer and her family came for a visit over the weekend. Grandson’s, Connor and Hunter, finally had a break in their wrestling matches, football and soccer games. They all got to enjoy a nice lunch and the boys got to drive around the pastures and had some country fun.

Ron and Pam Knotts recently attended a birthday party for their older son Kelly Knotts who just turned 50. The party was given by Kelly’s daughters, Maddy Martinez and Gabby Knotts and was attended by a few close friends and family. The party was at Kelly’s house near Centerville so Ron and Pam took the opportunity to make it a weekend camping trip. Good weather prevailed so porch sitting was the favored activity. The barbecue pit was well employed for fajitas and sausage and chocolate cake to top it all off. Lawn games did show up in the afternoon with corn hole and horse shoes the favorites. Family birthdays are the best.

James and I went a few days to the New Braunfels and San Marcos area so James could attend a conference. While out, we got to sample lots of delicious food and try a few new places. It was nice getting away for a few days.

Weather

Muldoon has been hot and dry for the majority of September. This past week on Wednesday parts of the Muldoon area saw some rain. Other parts barely got anything other than a few drops. After the brief showers it did cool off in the area. Hopefully this is the beginning of a fall cool off from the hot temperatures that have dominated the area.

Neighborhood Check

Be sure to check on your neighbors. There have been some illnesses, including Covid and the flu, that has been going around. Neighbors might be in need of a little help picking up medicine, groceries or maybe just a friendly voice checking on them.
