Animal Shelter Update

The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter hours of operation are as follows: open 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, for all normal operations. Monday the shelter is closed to the public with staff on-site for animal care from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The shelter allows reclaims on Monday after 10 a.m. by appointment. If you believe your lost pet may be in care, call (979) 966-0021 to confirm and learn requirements for reclaim.

The adoption fee for any dog or cat is $75 and includes: spay or neuter when age/appropriate, age-appropriate vaccines, rabies vaccine, and a microchip: a $250-$300 value.

As of Nov. 28, the total 2025 intake is 1,637: 674 dogs and 963 cats in need. There are 119 animals in care: 50 dogs and 69 cats.

Help us help them. The shelter is always looking for dog walkers, kitten cuddlers, laundry washers, and puppy bathers. You won’t regret volunteering.
