Animal Shelter Status

As of June 27, the total intake for 2025 at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 897, representing an increase of 73 dogs and cats in need for the same time frame in 2024. The shelter has cared for 411 dogs and 486 cats in need. There are 155 animals in care: 58 dogs and 97 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to a rescue partner.

The animal shelter offers a discount voucher program to the citizens of Fayette County for the spay or neuter of family pets and a microchip special for Fayette County pets. A microchip increases the chances of being reunited with your pet by 73%. Call (979) 9660021 for more information.
