Wetjens Welcome First Grandchild
Lauren Wetjen is the proud new grandmother of her first grandchild. Lauren’s daughter Haylee Schultz and Jacob Smith welcomed Lainee Mae Smith into the world on Aug. 11. Lainee Mae weighted in at eight pounds three ounces and measured 21 inches long.
Proud grandparents included Jeremiah and Cassie Smith, and Nick Schultz. Great grandparents are John and Linda Wetjen, Sharon and Larry Schultz, Janis and Donald Nolen and the late Helen Davis. Lanie Mae also has two uncles: Adam and Patrick Smith, along with one aunt, Nola Lee Bledsoe waiting to spoil her. This is also my great-great niece.
School Has Started
This was the first week of school for many in the area. Buses are running and a new traffic pattern is being established as everyone is figuring out how long it takes to get to school. For those not going to school, please have patience with the student drivers, the teachers and the bus drivers as they pick up students in the mornings and drop off in the afternoons. Slow down and be aware of kids along side the roads waiting for the bus or in the afternoon for kids walking back home, and never pass a bus with lights flashing.
Out and About
Ron and Pam Knotts recently met Ron’s college roommate, Fred Whetling for lunch at Southside Market in Bastrop. They have been friends for more than sixty years and still love to tell jokes and old stories. This time Fred brought along a new friend named Brenda who hails from New York but now lives in Austin. It was fun adding some new stories to the mix and the guys even broke out some old roommate adventure tales. The next lunch get together should be a lot of fun.
James and I took off to East Texas to celebrate our anniversary. We traveled to Palestine to spend a few days and ride the Texas State Railroad. We rode on the “Wine in the Pines” train that carried us slowly through the East Texas Pines all the way to Rusk. At the Rusk Station we enjoyed a catered meal, before boarding the train once more for a moonlight ride back to Palestine.
James and I also traveled to Lufkin to visit with niece Judy Tulles and her husband Winfred, who had just had a full knee replacement earlier that week. It was really nice catching up and seeing all the changes in and around the Lufkin area.
Weather
Muldoon is starting to get dry, but that is normal for the month of August. A thunderstorm blew through the area on Wednesday with a few fortunate spots got rain. Most of the area got a few sprinkles, and some rain cooled breezes that broke the hot and humid temperatures.
The Hogs Are Back
The hogs are back in the area. They are making ruts and wallows all over pastures in and around Muldoon. Large numbers of hogs have been spotted and have been known to attack dogs as they are traveling. They also are a problem on the roads too. Be aware of them as you are driving. Hitting a hog can cause major damage and have been known to get wedged under a vehicle when hit and making it almost impossible to control the vehicle.
Mike Hosteter Turns 90 Beloved Muldoon resident Mike Hosteter is turning ninety. He celebrated his birthday with his family, Michael and Pimy Saunders, Bobby and Donna Saunders, and his grandchildren and his great grandbabies at his house with a special cake and candles for him to blow out. If you see him out and about, be sure and wish him a very happy birthday.
