Realignment: UIL Moving Schulenburg Up to Class 3A

The new high school sports districts for the next two years won’t be released until February, but the UIL yesterday released the conference cutoff numbers, which at least lets teams know what conferences they will be in — and there’s some local shockers.

Schulenburg (high school enrollment 250) is moving up to Class 3A, just five students over the cutoff between 2A and 3A, meaning the Shorthorns and Lady Horns will be competing against larger schools the next two years.

Smithville (531.5 students) and Caldwell (532.5) will drop down to 3A.

Fayetteville (97) barely stays in 1A, just 8 students below the cutoff between 1A and 2A.

La Grange (607.5) and Giddings (583) stay in 4A but will be among of the smaller 4As in the state.

Weimar (214) and Flatonia (199) stay 2A. Round Top-Carmine (79) stays 1A.

These alignments are not just for sports, but also for other UIL competitions like band, academics, one act play, etc.
