Flatonia Beats Thorndale to Advance to Fourth Round

In a thrilling 1A regional quarterfinal playoff baseball series, the Flatonia Bulldogs (20- 6) prevailed over Thorndale by winning the final two games after losing Game 1. In that series opener, Flatonia lost 4-2 Thursday. But Friday and Saturday the Bulldogs edged Thorndale 7-5 and then 9-8 in extra innings when Wyatt Wehmeyer’s walkoff hit scored Brandon Perez.

Battling Back From the Brink

Under normal circumstances, the No. 1-ranked La Grange softball team is really, really good. Apparently, when the Lady
Leps’ backs are against the wall, they are even better. After losing Game 2 of their regional quarterfinal series with the Lady Cardinals 2-0 Saturday morning – La Grange’s first loss in three months, which snapped a 34-game win streak – the Lady
Leps pounded Columbus that night to win the decisive game 18-0.

No Medals Won, But Leps Runners Say State Was Great

While the performances for the La Grange state track qualifiers didn’t land any Leps on the medal stand, they all said it was an experience they will never forget. La Grange freshman J.K. Dobbins finished ninth in the 100 meter dash in a time of
11.03. Columbus’ Royce Caldwell, a senior, won the event with a 10.44

The Schulenburg softball team surged into the third round of the 2A playoffs by sweeping Brazos in a pair of games Thursday and Friday in Wharton. Thursday Schulenburg’s Jade Bujnoch threw a no-hitter (and also hit a triple herself) as
