LG 7th Graders Win Schulenburg Tourney

The La Grange 7th Grade girls basketball team recently won first place at the Schulenburg tournament. Here’s a roundup of their tournament action: La Grange vs Brazos: La Grange won 36-2 Scorers: Becca Heinrich 14 pts.; Aly Trlicek, 10 pts; Jahze Woods, 8 pts.; Harley Rhode and Aaliyah Hunt 2 pts. each.

LG Tennis Team Starts Strong

The La Grange High School Varsity Tennis Team competed in its first varsity tennis tournament of the season Friday, Feb. 6 in Yoakum. Eight schools competed, and the results were as follows:

Schulenburg Wins 28-2A Boys Title

Schulenburg’s Cullen Machac dribbles the ball down the court in Friday’s victory over Shiner.
With Friday’s dominating win over Shiner, the Schulenburg boys (23-7 overall and 9-0 in district) officially clinched the District 28-2A boys basketball title. Meanwhile, Friday was not so kind to the La Grange Leps, who dropped a 87-67 contest at Caldwell Friday to fall to 15-16 overall and 6-3 in district.

Giddings Downs LG Soccer Teams

The Giddings Buffaloes came to Leopard Stadium Tuesday and beat La Grange in both the boys and girls soccer games that night. Those games were the district openers for both teams. Above, some Lady Leps players battle for control of the ball right in front of the girls bench. Below, the La Grange boys play defense in front of their own goal. Both the La Grange boys and girls soccer teams play at Cameron this Friday.

Lady Leps Finish Regular Season Strong

The La Grange girls basketball team heads into the playoffs with some momentum on their side. In the regular season finale
Tuesday at home, the Lady Leps broke open a tight game with a dominating fourth quarter and beat Bellville 36-26.

Leps Clinch Playoff Berth

One season after winning their first basketball playoff game in 14 years, the Leps are headed back to try to make some 
more noise in the postseason. With Tuesday’s 51-41 victory over Bellville, the Leps clinched a playoff spot, with still a week remaining in the regular season.

Having a Ball

Officially the Harlem Ambassador basketball team beat the La Grange Optimist Showstoppers 69-31 Friday, but the real winners were the hundreds of local fans who turned out for the comedy basketball show, and the local seniors who will get college scholarships in part from proceeds raised at the event. It was a night of dazzling dunks and long-range shots by 
the visiting team of former college stars who travel the world nine months out of the year.

Dobbins, Hutchison Earn All-State Honors

La Grange landed two players on the 4A Texas Sports Writers Association All-State team. Sophomore J.K. Dobbins was named Second Team All-State as a running back. Meanwhile, Leps senior Bralon Hutchison was named honorable mention all-state in two different categories – as a running back and a kick returner.
