Zoch No-Hits Bellville as LG Soars to 14-0 Win

By JEFF WICK
WEIMAR – Bellville slowed down the La Grange offense for about as long as humanely possible – all of three innings. But when the Lady Leps bats finally got going Friday, even the scoreboard beyond the left-center wall wasn’t safe as La Grange pounded out 12 hits in a 14-0 victory over Bellville in a 4A regional quarterfinal game.

Dobbins Back & Better Than Ever

By JEFF WICK
The Fayette County Record Just six months ago J.K. Dobbins was on crutches. Now the La Grange HighSchool sophomore is back running among the fastest in Texas. Saturday Dobbins will compete in his second consecutive state track meet in the 100 meter dash. But what a long road he had to travel to get there after suffering a strained MCL knee ligament in La Grange’s statequarterfinal football game in December. The injury left Dobbins watching the second half of that loss to West Orange-Stark from the sidelines on crutches

Lady Leps Improve to 31-0 With Area Round Sweep of Liberty; Bellville is Next Opponent

By JEFF WICK

So far, the La Grange softball team has gone the entire season, an amazing 31 games, without a loss. But maybe even more amazing is the way the Lady Leps have been winning lately. Thanks to last weekend’s sweep of Liberty by scores of 7-0 and 10-0 in the area round of the Class 4A playoffs Friday and Saturday in Katy, the Lady Leps have not even allowed a single run in the last two months.

Lady Leps Open Playoffs With a Boom – Blast Worthing 28-0

By JEFF WICK
La Grange’s Art Behrend has been coaching for a long time, but even he said he’s never seen anything like Thursday’s 28-0 first round playoff victory by his Lady Leps softball team over Houston Worthing. It was a battle between one of the best high school softball teams in the nation in the Lady Leps (who improved to 29-0 with the win) and a Worthing team that had just slipped into the playoffs as the fourth place finishers out of District 22-4A – a Houston district that was outscored 80-1 in their four playoff games.

Local Runners are State-Bound

It was a big weekend for local track as numerous Fayette County athletes finished either
first or second in their events at regional meets to qualify for the state track meet, which will be held in Austin May 14-16. The La Grange girls 4x400 relay team makes a return trip
to state, and they may be headed there faster than ever as the quartet of Libby Read, Hannah
Gerecke, Hannah Zuhn and Lauren Zbranek zoomed around the track in a time of 4:02.81 Friday in the prelims and then beat that with a run of 4:00.53 in the finals, but each time Gatesville
was just a little faster. In the finals, Gatesville won with a 3:58.73. The La Grange girls
will get another crack at them at state.
