The last two Fayette County basketball teams alive in the playoffs had very different fates Friday in the 2A Area Round. The Schulenburg boys turned a game that was close early into a 60-44 victory over Snook thanks to a dominant second half in their playoff game in Bellville.

The La Grange baseball team got the 2016 regular season off to a strong, albeit, delayed, start with a 6-5 victory over Weimar Wednesday. The season opener was delayed a day because of bad weather, but better late than never, five Lep pitchers combined to limit the Wildcats to just six hits.

With a two-point win at Flatonia last Tuesday the Schulenburg boys basketball team clinched a perfect 10-0 run through District 28-2A play enroute to a district title. Now it’s on the playoffs for the Shorthorns. Shown here is the Schulenburg team celebrating after the win.

In what was likely the final home basketball game of their careers, seven La Grange seniors came up big to help clinch a playoff spot for the Leps on the final night of the regular season. The La Grange boys downed Giddings 50-40 to clinch third place in District 21-4A.

The La Grange girls shut out their second consecutive opponent as they beat Gonzales 1-0 Tuesday at Leopard Stadium. The victory improves the Lady Leps district record to 2-1 heading into a big game Friday at Smithville.
