Local Runners are State-Bound

It was a big weekend for local track as numerous Fayette County athletes finished either
first or second in their events at regional meets to qualify for the state track meet, which will be held in Austin May 14-16. The La Grange girls 4x400 relay team makes a return trip
to state, and they may be headed there faster than ever as the quartet of Libby Read, Hannah
Gerecke, Hannah Zuhn and Lauren Zbranek zoomed around the track in a time of 4:02.81 Friday in the prelims and then beat that with a run of 4:00.53 in the finals, but each time Gatesville
was just a little faster. In the finals, Gatesville won with a 3:58.73. The La Grange girls
will get another crack at them at state.

Lady Leps Pass Big Road Test

After beating their district opponents by a combined score of 132-0, the No. 1-ranked La Grange softball team desperately needed a little more competitive game as they prepare for the playoffs. And the Lady Leps got one, as they made the long trip to Barbers Hill for a postseason warm-up game Tuesday against the Class 5A No. 2-ranked Lady Eagles. But as they have all season, La Grange still came out on top, this time by a score of 3-0, to improve their record to 28-0. Barbers Hill fell to 22-4 with the loss.

NationalsLeps Beat Caldwell to Stay in Postseason Hunt

By JEFF WICK

Leps Climb Back in the Playoff Hunt

By JEFF WICK

Going into Tuesday’s district baseball game, La Grange was in last place and in the midst of a four-game losing streak while Bellville was in first and undefeated in district. But the Leps pulled off the biggest upset of the 21-4A season so far with a 4-3 win over the Brahmas and it keeps La Grange’s playoff aspirations alive. La Grange managed just one hit the entire game but somehow managed to score four runs.

By ANDY BEHLEN

Stormy weekend weather forced organizers of the BP MS 150 to cancel the first day of the Houston-to-Austin bicycle ride. But bad weather didn’t dampen thousands of riders who flooded the courthouse square in La Grange on Sunday morning, April 19, to ride the second leg of the trip.
