Flatonia Survives Lions & Bees to Win Regional Semi

In what has to be one of the most unusual causes for a game delay ever, a swarm of bees took
up residence in the Kenedy Lions dugout Saturday in San Marcos before Game 2 of their regional semifinal against Flatonia.

Read Named Track All-Star

La Grange senior Libby Read has been named a 2014-2015 track All-Star by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. She is one of only 15 athletes selected by the TGCA from the 1A through 4A classifications. Read was a three-time state qualifier in the mile relay for the Lady Leps.

Supak Wins Award at College World Series

At a banquet honoring the eight teams that made the 2015 Women’s College World Series Tuesday night, LSU senior utility player Dylan Supak was named the winner of the Elite 89 Award for the 2015 NCAA Division I Softball Championship. The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 89 championships.

Lady Leps Suddenly in Do-or-Die Mode

Two remarkable streaks ended for the La Grange softball team Wednesday night in a 4-1 loss to Huffman-Hargrave in the first game of their best-of-three regional final series. In the very first inning, when Huffman scored a run, it ended what had been a remarkable streak of 18 consecutive games in which the Lady Leps had held their opponents scoreless – a span of three months.

Lady Leps Advance to the Regional Finals

GEORGETOWN – The more the Waco Robinson batters saw of Missy Zoch, the more confused they looked. Zoch, La Grange’s star pitcher, hurled back-to-back seveninning shutouts (including retiring the final 13 batters she faced in order) as the Lady Leps swept Robinson by scores of 5-0 and 5-0 in their regional semifinal series Friday in Georgetown.

Fayette County Athletes Shine at State Track Meet

Schulenburg’s Josh Brown placed third in the discus and his Shorthorn teammate Javeon Lara placed third in the 100 meters, but that was all the hardware county athlete brought home from the state track meet over the weekend.

Flatonia Baseball Team Marches On

The Flatonia baseball team swept Big Sandy by scores of 4-2 and 3-0 in their 2A Area round baseball series last week. That vaults the Bulldogs into the regional quarterfinals where they will face Thorndale in a best-of-three series.
