La Grange High School senior, Brenna Beseda, has qualified for the Regional Powerlifting Meet to be held March 7. She competed in four meets so far this spring, getting 3rd place in Schulenburg, 2nd place in Smithville, 2nd place at Rice and 4th at the Rice Saturday Last Qualifying meet two weekends ago. Her total weight between all three lifts was 695 pounds.

The Fayette County Record Even the cold weather couldn’t cool off the hot start the La Grange softball team has had this season. Bad weather wiped out the last day of the Lady Leps home softball tournament, but not before the La Grange girls had gone 4-0 over the course of the first two days of the event to make their overall record a perfect 10-0 this season.

KATY – In an epic playoff basketball battle Tuesday, the differencemaker for Houston Scarborough ended up being a kid with Fayette County ties. Scarborough’s Hunter Janacek, a Division-I prospect whose grandmother Dorothy Janacek lives in La Grange, scored 15 fourth quarter points to lead the Spartans past the Leps 68-64 in a 4A bidistrict game Tuesday at Morton Ranch High School.

The Schulenburg girls and the Flatonia boys punched their tickets to the next round of the playoffs with wins Tuesday. Led by a 22-point night by Shannon Mikesky, Schulenburg downed San Saba 65-62 in overtime at Lake Travis High School to advance to the regional semifinals Friday at 8 p.m. in New Braunfels against Port Aransas.

It’s on to the third round of the playoffs for the Lady Horns. The Schulenburg girls got 16 points from Shannon Mikesky and 11 from Sam Gabler to lead the way as the Lady Horns dominated Holland 47- 30 Friday night in Bastrop in a 2A girls basketball area round playoff contest.

Talk about a strong way to open the season. The defending state champion La Grange softball team went 6-0 at the Brenham tournament over the weekend, knocking off several 5A and 6A schools before edging Santa Fe 3-2 in the final game in extra innings Saturday. The Lady Leps hit a whopping 12 homers during the tournament.
