Making a Splash Inaugural LHS Swim Team Already a Success

For the first time, La Grange High School has its own swim team and it’s already off to a great start. After parents discussed with the school board early last fall about starting a swim team, Coach Gretchen Ledwik was approached by Dr. Randy Albers and Coach Matt Kates about looking into how many swimmers would be interested.

Tuesday’s volleyball action saw the perennial state title contender Round Top-Carmine Cubettes officially clinch a district  itle with a sweep of Fayetteville.

The win-streak is now six straight for the Flatonia Bulldogs and none has been more important than Friday’s 21-7 victory in  eimar. The win puts the Bulldogs all alone in first place in District 13-1A, and virtually assures Flatonia of its first football  layoff appearance since 2007.

Rogers Too Much for Schulenburg

The Rogers Eagles and their high-speed offense ran for a remarkable 505 yards en route to beating Schulenburg 48-12  riday. The win snapped what had been a five-game win-streak by the Shorthorns.

La Grange Girls Down Smithville

The La Grange volleyball team won its 14th consecutive match with a 25-18, 25-15, 25- 22 win at Smithville Friday. Lexus  avis led the La Grange attack with 11 kills and Blair Gillard had 10 kills and seven blocks.

Schulenburg Blasts Blanco

Blanco had no answer for the Schulenburg passing game as Ross Bludau threw four touchdown passes to Jeff Lara in the first half and the Shorthorns rolled to a 35-20 victory over the Panthers. Lara ended up with seven catches for a remarkable 211 yards. His touchdown catches went for 26, 66, 43 and 46 yards.

Leps Dominate Gonzales 48-19

GONZALES – This town is famous for being where the Texas Revolution started when Gonzales-area settlers refused to hand over a cannon to Mexican officials back in 1835. Even today, the Gonzales football players are led  ut  nto the field before games behind a massive flag with a drawing  of that famous cannon and the words “Come and Take It.”

Flatonia Rolls Past Holland 34-7

The Flatonia Bulldogs made quite a statement in their district opener, blasting Holland 34-7. Last year it was the Hornets who beat Flatonia by 23 points, but the Bulldogs quickly showed Friday that things would be different. Flatonia scored all of their 34 points in the first half, while keeping Holland off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter.
