Fighting for a Cause

The 2014 La Grange Varsity volleyball team is pictured above with Johnny and Linda Oviedo. The Oviedos donated the October Pink Out “fighting for a cause” warmup jerseys for the team and will match funds raised by LHS volleyball and LMS volleyball for the Paige Highberg family. Paige is a 7th grader at LMS who is fighting leukemia. Over $2,000 will proudly be donated to Paige and her family.

Lady Leps Easily Win Playoff Opener

HEMPSTEAD – This was more a pounding than a playoff. In a 4A first round volleyball playoff match Monday, the Lady
Leps blasted Houston Scarborough 25-4, 25-4, 25-5. La Grange (33-12), the runner- up out of District 21, didn’t
even have to break a sweat against Scarborough, the third place representative from District 22.

Ready to Run at State

Fayetteville’s Kadin Schmitt placed 10th an individual at last weekend’s 1A regional cross country meet in Humble (out of 143 runners), advancing him to this Saturday’s state meet in Round Rock. He is one of four Fayette County athletes to advance to the state meet.

Perfect 10!

In a game that served as an exclamation point to a dominating regular season, the La Grange football team thrashed Salado  52-7 Friday on a chilly, windy Halloween night. There were no tricks, just treats for the La Grange players and their fans in this one, as the Leps rolled to nearly 500 yards of offense, and scored touchdowns on three of their first four plays from scrimmage.

It’s Volleyball Playoff Time

The La Grange volleyball team won its playoff warm-up match Friday in five sets over private school power Austin St. Stephen’s. That improves the Lady Leps’ record this season to 32- 12 as they head into a bidistrict match that was scheduled for Monday Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. in Hempstead against Houston Scarborough

Lots to Celebrate for Schulenburg Volleyball

The Schulenburg volleyball team had lots to celebrate after Tuesday’s victory over Shiner in the regular season finale, and the numbers on those cookie cakes they are holding say it all. The victory clinched the Lady Horns’ perfect 14-0 run through district play, and the match also marked head coach Donald Zapalac’s 300th career victory.

Fayetteville Jr. High Wins District

Fayetteville Jr. High’s A Team took first place at the district tournament in Snook on Saturday. They defeated Burton in a very tight three games for the championship, winning the first game 25-23, losing second game 25-27 and winning third game 18-16.

Two Fayette County teams are headed to the playoffs as district champions as the Schulenburg and Round Top-Carmine
squads both completed undefeated runs through their districts with wins Tuesday.

Leps Clinch Third Straight District Crown

Against a historic rival, the Leps made history. In the 74th consecutive regular season football meeting between La Grange and Giddings, the Leps football team beat the Buffaloes 59-36 Friday. The victory clinched the third consecutive district title for unbeaten La Grange (9-0), the first time that’s ever been done by the Lep football program
