LITTLE LEAGUERS, BIG DREAMS

This week the Little League World Series begins in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, with all the games televised on ESPN.
From his living room in La Grange, Clement Trlicek watches the games, like he does every season, and thinks back to the magical summer of 1974. Forty years ago, Trlicek helped coach what still stands as the most successful youth
baseball team Fayette County has ever had – a team of 11 and 12-year-olds from La Grange, Fayetteville and Round Top- Carmine that rattled off 13 consecutive playoff victories to win not only the state title but came within one win of going to the
World Series themselves, losing 1-0 to Jackson, Tennessee in the title game of the Southern Regional Tournament in Florida.

Staci. To the left, this bucking bronco has no intention of letting the rider last eight seconds during the rodeo Saturday night.

The La Grange football team has earned all sorts of preseason accolades, including a Top 10 state ranking in just about every poll. Everything head coach Matt Kates saw on the team’s first day of practice Monday showed the Leps are worthy of that statewide respect, a year after going 13-1.

Bailey Strong Again in Reds Loss

La Grange native Homer Bailey continues to pitch very well for the Cincinnati Reds, but isn’t getting much help. Bailey threw seven innings of three-hit, one-run baseball Saturday, but ended up getting a no-decision as the Reds eventually lost to the  Marlins 2-1 in ten innings.  That leaves Bailey’s record this season at 8-5.
