Leps Edge Navasota 2-0

The La Grange baseball team is still struggling to score runs, but Leps pitcher Corey Golan made sure that wasn’t a big issue Saturday. Golan hurled a complete game three-hitter as the Leps downed Navasota 2-0. For good measure Golan also had two of the Leps four hits and drove in one of the two runs.

By JEFF WICK

In a heart-breaking district opener for the La Grange baseball team Tuesday, the Leps lost 2-0 to Smithville in a game that was scoreless until the eighth. “This was just not a good game all-around for us,” said La Grange head coach Michael McCollum. “Give Smithville credit. Lady Leps Dominate Giddings, Smithville

By JEFF WICK

Not a bad two days of work for the La Grange softball team as they beat Giddings Monday 10-0 and then downed Smithville 11-0 Tuesday. Over the span of those two days, the Lady Leps out-hit the opposition 30-2 and junior pitcher Missy Zoch hurled back-to-back complete game one-hitters.

Colleges Love Lady Leps

The 2015 version of the La Grange softball team may be one of the most talented high school squads ever to take the diamond. College recruiters certainly think so as seven members of the current La Grange softball team have already accepted scholarship offers to play after high school.

The Leps beat Bastrop High 3-2 as Cole Garlin pitched a complete-game six-hitter with eight strikeouts. Cyclists Often Pass Through Fayette Co. on Coast-to-Coast Route

Roger Nelson, 67, Coke-in-hand, took a break at Round Top’s Los Patrones last week during his coast-to-coast bicycle ride.

Bicyclists are attracted to Fayette County like bees to honey. The spandex-clad riders come mostly in clusters, from small club groups to huge annual migrations like the MS-150. But occasionally there is a solo rider on a long distance trip. FCR interviewed one fellow several years ago who was close to completing a round-the-world adventure. More often these loners are bound coast to coast, usually west to east. That’s because Fayette County is on what’s known as the Southern Tier Bicycle Route from San Diego, California to St. Augustine, Florida.

By JEFF WICK

Since the La Grange soccer program began seven years ago, it’s often been an uphill battle for the Leps and Lady Leps having to compete against more established programs at much bigger schools. But this year the boys and girls soccer teams achieved a huge milestone for the program as both squads have earned their first ever playoff berths.
