James and Kathy Kneblik of Lone Oak announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Chelsea Dawn Kneblik, to Clayton Ray Bubak, son of Raymond and Donna Bubak of Columbus. The bride-elect is a 2008 graduate of Columbus High School and a 2011 graduate of Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications.

St. James’ Episcopal Preschool in La Grange rolled out the red carpet for its preschool stars as they started back to school this month. St. James’ offers a half-day preschool program for children ages 2-4, and has been in operation for 15 years. Lee Allan and Becky Matocha of Fayetteville and William and Madelyn Herman of Houston announce the engagement of their children, Bethany J’Ann Matocha and John Patrick Herman. The bride elect is the granddaughter of Doris Matocha and the late Lee Roy Matocha of Fayetteville and Buddy and Sue Collier of Huntington. Bethany is a 2007 graduate of La Grange High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 2011 followed by a Master’s degree of Public Administration in 2012 from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. She serves as a Sr. Regional Admissions Manager with City Year, a national service organization and AmeriCorps program.

Lezli Zbranek and Josh Thomas of Smithville recently got engaged in Cabo San Lucas. Lezli is the daughter of David (Zeebo) and Shelly Zbranek and Josh is the son of Johnnie Thomas of Smithville and Charlene Brewer of Bastrop. Lezli graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science and a minor in business administration.

On Tuesday, August 25, as part of the annual Jefferson- Jackson-Johnson dinner, Carmine’s Cecil Webster was guest speaker to a packed room of Austin, Fayette, and Washington county Democrats. The event was held at Blinn College in Brenham. Webster was joined on the speaker’s podium by State Senator Sylvia Garcia of Houston.

The sheer beauty of wood and metal shaped and worked by an artist is a wonder. Boards and cinder blocks will hold your books, but a beautifully designed and artisan- crafted bookcase is art.

Three Proclamations were recently signed by La Grange Mayor, Janet Moerbe. The proclamations designated local recognition of Patriot Day, which is observed September 11, Citizenship Day, September 17 and POW/MIA Recognition Day, September 18.

Four generations of Lois Wurst celebrated her 90th birthday on Aug. 29. There were 17 family members (children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren) from the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Texas. Lois, lives in The Villas in Schulenburg where all attended a special luncheon in The Villas dining room. The party continued with a dinner celebration at Ina’s Cafe Saturday night.
