Fayette County Junior Livestock Show Showmanship Winners

Senior Showmanship Swine won by Haley Bertsch, La Grange 4-H. The pig was not sold in the auction. Rachel Schley and Kayme Schley were buckle sponsors.

Co-ops Renew Effort To Form a County- Wide Wildlife Group

Leaders from most of Fayette County’s wildlife management cooperatives met in La Grange on Thursday, March 26, to discuss forming a countywide organization to support the seven wildlife co-ops in the county. The meeting was led by Erich Lehmann and Laura Sherrod. Lehmann is a member of Lee County’s East Yegua Wildlife Co-op and the Lee County Wildlife Association.

Fayette, Colorado Counties to Hold Annual Pecan Field Day

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Fayette and Colorado counties will again host the Annual Pecan Field Day on Thursday, April 16 at the Hajovsky Pecan Bottom. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Holman Parish Hall which is located at 9937 FM 155 in La Grange.

Turtle Wing Set to Celebrate Grand Slam Year

Derby committee members are hoping to load the bases with a record number of participants
as the Grand Slam year of the Jack Hooper Day at the Ballpark and Homerun Derby approaches. The 4th Annual event will be held on Saturday, April 25 at the Schulenburg Sports Complex. This family event has something for everyone and all proceeds benefit the non-profit work of Turtle Wing Foundation.

Navidad Valley CattleWomen Donate Beef

Navidad Valley CattleWomen (NVCW) donated ground beef to family and consumer science classes at high schools in Schulenburg, Hallettsville and Columbus. Pictured are students taking the course at Schulenburg High School.
The Agriculture Council of America (ACA) hosted National Agriculture Day on March 18. This marked the 42nd anniversary of National Ag Day which is celebrated in classrooms and communities across the country. The theme for National Ag Day was “Agriculture: Sustaining Future Generations.” March 18the ACA hosted major events in the nation’s capital. A number of producers, agricultural associations, corporations, students and government organizations involved in agriculture participated at a local level.

Local Musician Performs at RTA Meeting

Mary Ann Hatfield peformed at the March 9 Retired Teachers’ Association meeting. Hatfield holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree
The Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association met on March 9 at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in La Grange. The members enjoyed social time prior to the introduction of pianist Mary Ann Hatfield. Mary Ann began playing the piano at age three, and holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree. She has been a music teacher, church organist, the pianist and vocalist for the Gus Lindemann Orchestra, accompanist for the Fayette County Chorale, and has been the music director of area musicals, such as the “Fate of Fayette”, and “Heart of the Tin Trunk”.

Women’s Bible Study Starts Monday in Flatonia

Women’s Bible Study in Flatonia, which meets on Monday afternoons at 3:45 p.m., will begin a new 5-week video series on Monday, March 30 and continue each Monday until April 27. These 1-hour videos of renown Speakers are recordings of the “Women of Faith” National Event held in Houston February of 2014.

Garden Club Meets Feb. 26

La Grange Garden Club President Linda Borgstedte presented the program at the Feb. 26 meeting.
The La Grange Garden Club held their monthly meeting on Feb. 26 at the Randolph Recreation Center. Twenty-three members and one visitor attended. New business discussed included the Garden Club’s annual Caladium Bulb Sale and Plant Sale to be held on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11 at the Faison Home.
