Schulenburg Aldermen Concerned About New Permits, Inspections

At the Schulenburg City Council meeting on Monday, April 20, a few of the aldermen raised concerns about the City’s new building permit and inspection process provided by the Bureau Veritas company. Alderman Larry Veselka requested the item on the meeting agenda after fielding complaints from property owners and contractors over the high cost of construction permits and stringent inspections by Bureau Veritas employees.

Senior Citizens Lunch, Fair May 8

The annual Senior Citizen Day luncheon and fair will be held on Friday, May 8 at the Randolph Recreational Center Gymnasium, 653 E. Pearl in La Grange. This year’s theme is “Get into the Act” and the focus is on how older adults are taking charge of their health, getting engaged in their communities and making a positive impact in the lives of others.

Remnant Church Holds Activities

More than 20 of the men of the Remnant Church in La Grange got together for a fellowship breakfast on Saturday, Feb 28. They met at Broken Drum Provisions cafe. Terry Robertson shared a devotional about generosity. Also, the Remnant Church W.O.R.D (Women of Radical Devotion) group also gathered for fellowship at a breakfast in Schulenburg at Oakridge Restaurant on Sat. March 28.

Noak Family Holds 71st Annual Reunion April 11 in Round Top

The descendants of Peter August and Johanna Wilhelmine Noack (Noak) held their annual reunion on April 11 at the Round Top Rifle Association Hall. The Noak reunion is one of the longest, continuous reunions held in Fayette County. Recognition was given to the youngest member present (Brayden Noak), longest living female (Nevilee Marburger) and longest living male (Fred Weber). Most recently married couple (Shannon and Robyn Payne) and longest married couple (Elo and Vernell Mertz) were also recognized. The family member traveling the farthest was Wendy Maltba from Orange.

Walhalla TEEA Club Met March 16

The Walhalla TEEA club met Match 16 at the fairgrounds in the EH kitchen. President Connie Sellers called the meeting to order and Secretary Norma Ann Euton called roll call with “ How much water do you drink each day?” Most of the members answered with not enough. Bobby Walker introduced Megan and Chelsea Brothers from the 4H club and they told everyone what all they do and are involved in with 4H. On Jan. 3, they placed second in clothing and eighth in wildlife. They both stay very busy with all they are involved in and are getting ready for the livestock show.

2015 Relay for Life to be Held In Memory of Lawrence W. Ryza

The 2015 La Grange Relay for Life will be held April 25 at Leopard Stadium and is being held in memory of Lawrence
W. Ryza, who died of cancer May 28, 2014. Here is a look back at his legacy through some words of  his family: A loving son, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather, Lawrence courageously fought his battle with the awful word we never want to hear – CANCER.

May Proclaimed Older Americans Month

County Commissioners proclaimed May Older Americans Month in Fayette County Monday. The proclamation notes that the County “includes a thriving community of older Americans who deserve recognition for the contributions and sacrifices to ensure a better life for future generations, and we recognize the value of community engagement and service in helping older adults remain healthy and active while giving back to others.” Left to right in back of Judge Janecka and Commisioners: Sandy  Rials, Jeanette Huelsebusch, Jackie Wessels, Joey Walker, Jenifer Boening, Kathy Quinlan.

Cernoch Named To Farmers Board

Herb Janssen, President of Farmers Lumber Company, has announced that at the March meeting, the Board of Directors
elected Daniel Cernoch to oin the board. Additionally, the board elected Harry Lehmann as Vice President. Farmers Lumber
Company has been around since 1907. Cernoch is a La Grange native and founder of Daniel Cernoch Plumbing.

HEB, United Way Donate $10,000 To Local Meals on Wheels Program

Donations from local HEB employees have added up to make a big impact for senior citizens here. Thursday a $10,000 donation was made from HEB and United Way to Combined Community Action. Those funds will go to purchase meals for
the Fayette County Meals on Wheels Programs.

Court Annunciation No. 1962 Holds Family Dinner, Banquet

The annual family dinner celebrating the 49th anniversary of Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange, Catholic Daughters
of the Americas (CDA) was held Sunday, March 22, at the Knights of Columbus Community Center. The social began at noon and the welcome was given by Vice Regent Becky Munsch at 12:30 p.m., after which Deacon Mike Meismer led the Blessing before the meal.
