La Grange High School Class of 1949 Reunion

The 1949 Class of La Grange High School held its 65 year reunion at the Oaks Restaurant in Warrenton recently. A cool atmosphere was enjoyed to visit and remember important events of their school days. Departed classmates were remembered in prayer. Attending were in front, left to right, Junell (Buscha) Ladewig, Virginia (Munsch) Hitt, Myrtle (Stahmer) Harbers, Joyce (Zigal) Rohde, Dorothy (Blaha) Svetlik, Josie (Hartmann) Muske, Elva (Bunte) Bohot, back, Ed. Giese, Lawrence Baron, Weldon Behrens, Alfons Weigelt, Charleen (Wessels) Koopmann, Genelda (Citzler) Stahmer, Dolly (Vacula) Newton, Jospeh Kudlacek, Mabel (Hengst) Lopez, and Ruth (Albrecht) Hensel.

St. James A.M.E. 140th Church Anniversary

The members of St. James A.M.E. Church in Weimar, cordially invite the community to attend their 140th Church Anniversary
and Homecoming on Aug. 10, at 3:30 p.m. The oldest church in Weimar was established in February 1874, when the railroad reached the area. A town called Weimar came into being.

Shelby Petras, Jason Zbranek Married in Hostyn on June 17

Shelby Lynn Petras and Jason Matthew Zbranek were united in marriage on June 14, 2014 at the Queen of the Holy Rosary
Catholic Church in Hostyn with Father Dan Kahlich and Deacon John McCourt officiating. Shelby is the daugher of
Thomas and Melissa Petras of Hostyn. Grandparents of the bride are the late George and Hilda Petras of La Grange and
Joe and Jocelyn Henneke of Frelsburg.

Hermann Sons Members Receive Pins

On Saturday, July 5, Rutersville Sons of Hermann Lodge No. 152 held their “Family Fun Night” at which time several members had pins presented. Four members had their “60” year pins presented by Kimberly Krueger, Grand VP, Fraternal and one member had her “70” year and also a “50” year pin was presented. Korean War Veterans Honored

Korean War veterans were honored prior to the July meeting and meal at the VFW Hall in La Grange. The veterans were given citations for their service. They and their spouses sat at a patriotically decorated table with a welcome sign and a decorated cake reading “Korean War Armistice, July 27, 1953.”

DAR Members Attend 123rd Continental Congress In D.C.

Since the founding of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in 1890, the organization has held
Continental Congress, its annual national meeting in Washington D.C. National, state and chapter leaders as well as other members from across the world meet at the DAR National Headquarters for a week during the summer to report on the year’s work, honor outstanding award recipients, plan future initiatives and reconnect with friends.

Smith-McMillan DAR Chapter Installs New Officers

Smith-McMillan Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, held their last meeting of this term at the home of member Mary Gunn in La Grange. The chapters’ special guest for this occasion was Pamela Rouse Wright, State Regent of Texas. Regent Jackie Head called the meeting to order, followed by the DAR opening ritual.
