K.J.Z.T. Society 31 Hold Annual Meeting

On Thursday, Nov. 14, members of Society 31, St. Frances of Rome of La Grange, Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas
– K.J.Z.T. met for their annual meeting in the Sacred Heart Center. President Marilyn Kothmann called the meeting to order
at 4:30 p.m. and led members in opening prayers remembering deceased members Diana Horelica and Adela Kubesch, the people of Philippines, and all Veterans, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to both the United States and Texas flags

Wessels Descendants Hold Reunion Nov. 10

A large group of Wessels descendants gathered on Sunday, Nov. 10 at the recently relocated and reconstructed Wessels Dance Hall at Pioneer Village in Austin. The relocation of the hall was the generous gift from the V.F. and Laura Wessels Havemann family.

Industry, Fayetteville Brethren Honor Vets

Industry and Fayetteville Brethren Churches honored 140 veterans on Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Industry Brethren Church 9 a.m. service. This was the fourth annual service of this kind for the churches. There were 136 veterans on the program and four guest veterans recognized. Each living veteran received a remembrance ribbon with red poppy and “thanks” on it as well as a small U.S. flag that noted the event.

Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets and Hears Reports

The Sacred Heart Altar Society met in November with a full report of the Eastern Council of Catholic Women held in La
Grange on Oct. 22 given by Judy Langhamer. The usual Commission reports were given to 42 ladies in the deanery present. The Spiritua  Advisor Fr. Steven Sauser spoke about his retreat in Chicago. Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz gave an informative talk about his past involvement with the Eastern Council as director of the Clerical Endowment Fund and encouraged the women to continue their support of the CEF.

County Food Show Winners

The Fayette County 4-H Food Show was held on Oct. 26. In the Senior Division, Hannah Garlick entered in the Protein Category with Chicken Tetrazzini and placed 1st. In the Grains category, Erin Supak placed 1st with Whole Wheat Oatmeal Sandwich Bread. Gretchen Kuck competed in the Fruit & Vegetable Category with Popeye’s Ice Cream and placed 1st. In the Junior Division, Mackenzie Poncik competed in the Grains category with Banana Muffins and placed 1st. In the
Protein category, Austin Nedbalek made Mom’s Okra Gumbo and placed 1st. Also placing 1st in the Dairy category was Abigail Taylor with her Strawberry Yogurt

Retired Teachers Hear From Fayette County Attorney

The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association met Nov. 11 at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in La  Grange. Harold Streicher, Fayette County Assistant D.A. was the  featured speaker. Streicher spoke on “A Patriotic Message.” He said, “It is important that we all become stewards of our God-given freedoms, that we are the  beneficiaries of so many wonderful liberties. Upon this Veterans Day, we should remember all servants in the
Armed Forces, past and present, who are noble servants of one’s precious liberties. Such sacrifice shows a devotion, and tireless efforts to instill a love for the United States of America. Such liberties were always at the forefront by our Founding Fathers, as demonstrated by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin.”

CDA No. 1962 Receives Two New Members

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962 held their monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 28 at
the Sacred Heart Center in La Grange. Preceding the meeting a social and light meal was served beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the following members serving on the committee: Debbie Taylor, Katherine Svatek, Carol Svrcek, Virginia T. Huffer, Linda Vasek, Earline Trlicek, Jo Ann Trlicek, and Tammy Trlicek.

Knights of Columbus, CDA Memorial Services Held Nov. 12

On the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Knights of Columbus Community Center in La Grange was the setting for the annual commemoration of departed members of the Knights of Columbus, Chromcik Council #2574 of La Grange, Hostyn,
and Plum, along with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation #1962 of La Grange and Court Queen
of the Holy Rosary #2282 of Hostyn.

CDA Promotes WRAP Campaign

Court Annunciation #1962 La Grange, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, promoted the annual national White Ribbon  Against Pornography (WRAP) campaign the week of Oct. 27 through Nov. 3 by placing white ribbons on the trees at the  Fayette County Courthouse, raising awareness of the need to abolish pornography in our communities. Helping Regent  Susie Kalmus, center, with this project were from left, Elizabeth Kallus and Stacy Ryza.

Garden Club Hears From Master Gardener at October Meeting

The La Grange Garden Club met Oct. 24 at the Randolph Recreation Center with 23 members and 9 visitors attending. Two  visitors, Jackie Sicko and Sharon Wilson joined the club at the meeting. Garden Club Vice President Linda Borgstedte  introduced guest speaker Harold Pieratt who is a local Master Gardener. His presentation was about drought tolerant and  water-wise plants for xeriscape gardening.
