On Tuesday, June 23 at 7 p.m., Cynthia Collier, a quilter from Houston, will be speaking at the monthly meeting of the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild. Cynthia Collier is an awardwinning quiltmaker as well as an antique quilt collector, teacher and pattern designer. She found her passion for quilting in 1986 after taking a sampler class and learning the basics from seasoned quilters in rural Tennessee.

The pace of tourism in Fayette County is growing as summer arrives, and local businesses are
eager to serve them. Fayette County Tourism Association and its growing number of business
patrons aim at promoting the county as a visitor distination. Ronny Sacks, president and CEO of
Round Top State Bank, said tourism benefits not only lodging and restaurants, but businesses
across the entire economic spectrum.

The public pools in Fayette County located in La Grange, Schulenburg and Flatonia have opened their doors for the summer, offering simple and affordable family fun. Each is conveniently located at a city park. Each of the pools provides features for all age groups to enjoy the summer, and folks will not have to travel far to address the “dog days” heat or summer boredom. Families can picnic in the parks at each of the pools.

The backlash that some citizens have expressed to the plan to turn the old Fayette Memorial Hospital into a clinic has surprised some of the principal organizers of the project. “It’s morphed into perhaps issues that were not on our radar at all,” said La Grange superintendent Randy Albers.

You better be especially good this weekend.There’s going to be a lot of extra law enforcement personnel in town Thursday through Sunday as La Grange hosts the 2015 Texas Citizens on Patrol state convention. La Grange Police Chief Jackie Skelton, one of the organizers of the event, said he is preparing for about 125 attendees from 20 Citizens on Patrol groups from around the state as far away as Beaumont and Dallas-Fort Worth.

The Remnant Church in La Grange has a special baptism service several times per year. Recently,
ten people were water baptized, making a public commitment of their decision to follow Jesus. The adults baptized were Sharon Hollmann, Jennifer Berry, Walter Sutton, Dustin Burton,
and Shandrae Wright.

The Shared Lutheran Ministry congregations, St. John, Ellinger; St. Paul, Fayetteville; St. John, Rutersville; and St. John’s, Warrenton had a joint worship service Sunday, May 24 at St. Paul in Fayetteville.
