Celebration of the Feast of Days

For the eighth year, a Mass was held on Dec. 28 in the Monument to the Innocents, two miles west of Flatonia. Prior to the Mass, a rosary was led by Georgie Cerny from Praha (Czech), and by Elizabeth Bishop and Theresa Migl (English), and Mercedes Torres and Kary Muniz (Spanish), all from Austin.

Round Top Hermann Sons Lodge Presents Membership Pins, Humanitarian Award

The Round Top Hermann Sons Lodge No. 151 recently awarded Lila Garlin as the lodge’s Humanitarian Award 
recipient. Since her retirement, Lila Garlin has become an active, dedicated member and volunteer in many local organizations. During the last year, she has served in officer positions as Vice President of the Round Top Hermann Sons Lodge 151, President of the Carmine Lions Club and Treasurer of the Round Top Area Historical Society.

Friendship Club Donates to Animal Shelter

Saturn Friendship Club is a social club that makes donations to worthy causes. This year members voted to make their annual donation to the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter in La Grange. Members come from Bastrop, Caldwell, Fayette, Gonzales and Lavaca Counties and meet monthly at The Cistern Schoolhouse

Charleen Koopmann and Dick Frenzel present Avery Behrens with his award as winner of Voice of Democracy $500 scholarship for the second year in a row. Theme was “Why Veterans Are Important to our Nation’s History and Future.”

The Smith-McMillan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its annual Christmas Luncheon at the 
Fritsch Aif Valley Country Club on Saturday, December 6. Guest speakers Major Hope Use and Captain Chas Use spoke
on “Life as Married U. S. Army Officers in the War With Iraq.”

Dig It Preschool Earns Award

Stacie Karstedt, owner and preschool teacher of Dig It Preschool and Childcare was presented with a Technology Award for outstanding use of technology in her classroom. This preschool program is part of a Preschool Early Learning Technology Project through Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area Child Care Services. Stacie successfully integrated the technology component into the regular classroom routine.

Window Decorating Contest

La Grange Main Street recently held its annual Christmas Window Decorating Contest on the Square. The First Place Winner was Prosperity Bank (shown above). For their window display, they asked their staff to bring a tree depicting “something” that was special to them and placed them around the “Prosperity” Tree in their main display window.

The La Grange Main Street Advisory Board is pleased to announce two new board members for 2015. Danielle Holladay from Woodmen of the World is brand new to the Main Street Program and Gary Niesner of D&G Office Supplies is a returning board member who is currently chair of the Main Street Design Committee along with Schmeckenfest.

Fayette County Habitat for Humanity Helps Resident In Fire’s Aftermath

Fayette County Habitat for Humanity organized a clean-up day recently for a local resident who lost her home in a fire in the West Point area. The many volunteers helped clean up debris and collect scrap metal for the homeowner, Diane Barta, to sell.
