Frank (Buster) and Beverly Drescher of La Grange and Dexter and Pat Cantrell of Lake Charles, La. announce the upcoming
marriage of their children, Jennifer Renee to Justin Wade Cantrell. The bride-elect is a graduate of Texas A&M University and currently works as a 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent in Calcasieu Parish, La. The prospective groom is a Journeyman Machinist with AXIALL in Westlake, La.

Court Queen of the Holy Rosary Meets, Prayer Blanket Blessing Held Sept. 8

The regular meeting of the Court Queen of the Holy Rosary No. 2282 was called to order by Regent Brenda Fietsam on Monday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Hostyn dining hall. Regent Fietsam welcomed everyone and introduced the guests. Recording Secretary Linda Wagner read the minutes of the last meeting of June 9. They were approved as read. The Court received a thank you note from the Family Crisis Center for the personal care items given. Also thank you notes were received on behalf of a Prayer Blanket recipient and from a high school graduate.

Outgoing Quilt Guild President Reports On Year Activities, New Officers Installed

Jackie Asbell, outgoing President of the Colorado Valley Guild, summarized service projects to the central Texas  community in her final meeting on Aug. 26. The Colorado Valley Quilt  Guild has a long history of producing service projects to benefit
the community. In the prior twelve months, two quilts were completed to assist with fund raising for the Gardenia E. Janssen
Animal Shelter, and a quilt was also donated for display to the St. Mark’s Medical Center Foundation.

Koenig Family Reunion Held at Moravia

The descendants of John August and Mary Klaevemann Koenig met this past Saturday at the Moravia Hall in Lavaca
County to celebrate the 98th birthday of Paul Edmond Gerhard Koenig and to reunite as a family as they have done annually since the 1950s. John August Gerhard Koenig immigrated to Fayette County along with his mother, Dorothea Dinklage “Dora” Koenig and siblings, Carl Christian “Charlie” Koenig and Dorothea Friederike “Frieda” Koenig Frank in the late 19th century, arriving in Galveston aboard the Trave on October 18th, 1889.

Women of Joy Conference

A group of ladies from Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in La Grange recently attended the Women of Joy Conference in San Antonio, a gathering of about 2000 Christian women from across the state and elsewhere. The women all described this conference as “life changing”.

Heading to Nationals

The 4-H State Horse Hippology Contest was held on Saturday, Sept. 6 in Scurry and two Fayette County Horse Clubs placed first in their divisions. This contest consisted of five phases including judging a halter and a reining class, a written examination, identification stations, slides, and a team problem presentation.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962, met on Monday, Aug. 25, in the Msgr. Harry  Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. Preceding the meeting a light meal was served beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the following

Aaron Michael Guettler was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father Joseph Varickamackal on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, after the 5 p.m. Mass. Aaron is the son of Erich and Kim Guettler of Round Rock. Godparents are Kyle and Katie Janda of La Grange. Grandparents are Karen and TJ Janda of La Grange, Roland and Betsy Guettler, Jr. of Warda, and Debbie Guettler of Cameron
